approved the following motions at its <a href=\"https:\/\/pub-mississauga.escribemeetings.com\/Meeting.aspx?Id=442491a9-c860-461a-a91f-0f620cfcb908&amp;Agenda=Merged&amp;lang=English\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">meeting<\/a>.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/pub-mississauga.escribemeetings.com\/Players\/ISIStandAlonePlayer.aspx?Id=442491a9-c860-461a-a91f-0f620cfcb908\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Watch<\/a> the\u00a0meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Reduction of City residential development charges<\/p>\n<p>Council approved a motion to reduce City residential development charges by 100 per cent for residential units with one bedroom plus den and two-bedrooms or larger as part of a purpose-built rental housing development.<\/p>\n<p>Key points of the motion:<\/p>\n<p>Council reduced the amount of City residential development charges payable by 100 per cent, effective immediately, for units with one-bedroom plus den and two bedrooms or larger that are part of a purpose-built rental residential apartment development prior to November 13, 2026, and construction has commenced within six months of the date of the issuance of the permit.<br \/>\nCouncil authorized the Chief Financial Officer &amp; Treasurer, and the City Clerk, or their designate, to enter into deferral agreements on behalf of the City providing for the reduction in development charges that shall secure the requirement that the development remain a purpose-built rental residential apartment development for a minimum of 25 years from the date the first occupancy permit is noopener\" target=\"_blank\">discussion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Encouraging the display of the Canadian National Flag adjacent to any foreign flag on residential properties<\/p>\n<p>Mississauga Council expressed its symbolic and non-binding support for the practice of flying the Canadian national flag adjacent to any foreign national flag that is displayed on residential properties within Mississauga, as a voluntary act of pride and respect<\/p>\n<p>Key points of the motion:<\/p>\n<p>Council directed staff to look into ways to promote public education and awareness of this initiative as well as recommended flag etiquette and the significance of displaying the Canadian national flag respectfully alongside foreign flags, while clearly communicating that this practice remains voluntary.<br \/>\nThe motion served solely as an expression of Council\u2019s intent to promote unity, respect and national pride within Mississauga\u2019s diverse communities.<br \/>\nThe Civic Centre clock tower will be lit in the colours of the Canadian national flag, red and white, on Sunday, February 15 in recognition of \u2018National Flag of Canada Day\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Read the <a noopener\" target=\"_blank\">discussion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mississauga allows extended alcohol service hours during Winter Games<br \/>\nKey points of the motion:<\/p>\n<p>Council for the City of Mississauga requested the Registrar of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to designate the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games being held between February 6, 2026 and February 22, 2026 as being of national significance.<br \/>\nCouncil requested the Registrar of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to permit licensed local bars and restaurants in Mississauga to serve alcohol starting at 6 a.m. from February 5 to 22, 2026, to coincide with early morning broadcasts of the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games to support local businesses and allows fans to watch events together.<br \/>\nThe City Clerk was directed to forward this request to the Registrar of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>Read the <a noopener\" target=\"_blank\">discussion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Council endorsed the following items presented at the February 4, 2026 General Committee meeting<\/p>\n<p>2025 Emergency Management Program Review<\/p>\n<p>Council endorsed a report which outlined the initiatives the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) undertook in 2025 in collaboration with City and community partners to advance the City\u2019s emergency management program.<\/p>\n<p>Key points of the report:<\/p>\n<p>The OEM updated the City\u2019s Emergency Plan in 2025 to reflect lessons learned and emerging research.<br \/>\nThe OEM was engaged in the enhanced monitoring and response of approximately 31 incidents throughout 2025.<br \/>\nThe OEM provided 32 emergency management\/incident management training courses to both internal staff and emergency management partners from various agencies.<br \/>\nThe OEM planned, conducted and participated in 23 emergency exercises.<br \/>\nThe OEM engaged in 40 public target=\"_blank\">discussion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency Management By-Law and Plan<\/p>\n<p>Council approved amendments to the City\u2019s Emergency Management Plan By-law to include the newly updated Emergency Plan and to update the membership of the City\u2019s Emergency Management Program Committee and Municipal Emergency Control Group.<\/p>\n<p>Key points of the report:<\/p>\n<p>The Emergency Management Plan By-law 0110-2023 is being amended.<br \/>\nThe composition of the City\u2019s Emergency Management Program Committee and Municipal Emergency Control Group have been amended to include the Commissioner, Legislative Services as a member, better reflecting the City\u2019s existing organizational decision-making structure.<br \/>\nThe Office of Emergency Management have revised the noopener\" target=\"_blank\">discussion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mitigating Safety Hazards Due to Errant Golf Balls<\/p>\n<p>Council approved amendments to a number of by-laws to provide a clear and enforceable approach to managing safety risks associated with errant golf balls while recognizing the operational realities of golf courses.
