{"id":495279,"date":"2026-02-24T01:45:21","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T01:45:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/495279\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T01:45:21","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T01:45:21","slug":"toronto-protest-man-charged-with-assault","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/495279\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto protest: Man charged with assault"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A Toronto man has been arrested and charged following an alleged assault at a Feb. 20 demonstration in the city\u2019s Yorkville area. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. near Yonge and Bloor streets at a weekly \u2018Fridays for Palestine\u2019 rally, Toronto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/65281\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/65281\/\">police said Monday<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Investigators said a suspect approached a victim and assaulted them. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In a follow-up email, a media officer told CP24 that the accused \u201cpunched the victim in the face,\u201d adding that they don\u2019t know if the victim was a demonstrator or a counter demonstrator. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cAs far as I\u2019m aware, there were no other injuries or arrests,\u201d the police officer said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Maury Cheskes, 33, of Toronto, has been charged with assault and failure to comply with probation order.
