\n\tEric Ben\u00e9t<\/a> did not hold back in a recent Instagram video criticizing Jelly Roll<\/a>, whose silence about political matters backstage at the 2026 Grammys raised concerns for the R&B singer\/songwriter.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a clip posted Sunday, Ben\u00e9t filmed himself lying down while speaking to the camera. \u201cWe all saw the Grammys and remember that moment where that Jelly Roll motherf\u2014er [made] his speech,\u201d he began, referencing the country star\u2019s religiously charged acceptance<\/a> speech when he won best contemporary country album for Beautifully Broken on Feb. 1. \u201cPowerful speech, right? Holding the bible up in his hand, talking about what the Lord has done for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBen\u00e9t then compared Jelly\u2019s onstage speech to a viral moment <\/a>from backstage at the Grammys, when the country star took questions from reporters. \u201cWhen he was asked, \u2018What about the atrocities in the world?\u2019 All of a sudden he was, \u2018I\u2019m just a dumb ol\u2019 redneck, I keep my political views to myself,’\u201d Ben\u00e9t said in his video.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThat n\u2014a full of sh\u2013,\u201d the crooner added. \u201cNever trust a person who will speak passionately and in great detail about love, but when it\u2019s time to speak against hate, they ain\u2019t got sh\u2013 to say.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBillboard has reached out to Jelly Roll\u2019s rep for comment. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe moment Ben\u00e9t was referring to came shortly after Jelly won all three of the Grammys he was up for at the Recording Academy ceremony earlier in February. When asked if he \u201cwould be willing to comment about what\u2019s happening in the country\u201d at a time when outrage over the fatal ICE shootings of Minnesotans Renee Good and Alex Pretti was fresh, Jelly replied that \u201cpeople shouldn\u2019t care\u201d about his opinion.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m a dumb redneck,\u201d he added at the time. \u201cI hate to be an artist who\u2019s that aloof, but I\u2019m so disconnected from what\u2019s happening. \u2026 I didn\u2019t even know politics<\/a> were f\u2014ing real until I was in my mid-20s in jail. When you grow up in a drug addict household, you think we have common calls about what\u2019s happening in world politics?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThat said, Jelly also claimed in the moment that he did have \u201ca lot to say\u201d about political issues and promised that he would be sharing with fans in the next week, but hasn\u2019t expanded on that in the three weeks since.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Monday (Feb. 23), Ben\u00e9t posted a follow-up video to respond to some of the feedback he\u2019d gotten on the original Jelly Roll video.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSome of the comments were like, \u2018Yo, Eric, why everyone gotta be f\u2014ing political? He said he was gonna do some research and get back on the topics he didn\u2019t know about,\u2019\u201d Ben\u00e9t begins in the new clip. \u201cIf you claim to be a follower of Christ, how much research do you have to do to publicly say that raping, torturing and killing children is bad? How much research you gotta do to say genocide is bad? How much research you gotta do to say that if the government is trying to take away our First Amendment right of free speech on this platform or any other or being able to protest in the street, or being able to safely protest in a street without having to be worried about being murdered, then that\u2019s bad? I think one of the reasons we are in such a jam in this country and in the world right now is because too many people are too easily manipulated by a select few who claim to be godly but are funded by the Satanic.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cJesus gave you an open-book test on what it means to follow him: Shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, and love thy neighbor,\u201d he concluded. \u201cAll that other sh\u2013, does that align with those teachings? Then it\u2019s not political. It\u2019s you being a good Christian to speak out against that sh\u2013.\u201d<\/p>\n
