Bill Maher\u00a0and musician John Mellencamp discussed Monday about how out of touch wealthy liberal celebrities are with everyday working Americans.<\/p>\n

On his \u201cClub Random\u201d podcast, Maher said that while he finds Democrats ultimately to be \u201cless alarming\u201d than Republicans, he takes issue with their far-left excesses and sometimes tone-deaf messaging. \u201cBut yes, I think both sides have to be called out. And, like, I live in Hollywood, this town just does not believe that. They do not believe in calling out both sides.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mellencamp recalled\u00a0Maher\u2019s recent statement\u00a0rejecting the idea of using the Golden Globes<\/a> as an opportunity to make political statements by wearing lapel pins to honor Minneapolis resident Renee Good, who was shot and killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A variety of prominent celebrities \u2014 including actor Mark Ruffalo and comedian Wanda Sykes \u2014 wore pins that said, \u201cBe Good,\u201d in reference to Renee Good, while others used the televised platform to make political statements.<\/p>\n

Maher, however, laughed off and rejected the idea, sparking celebrity ire <\/a>to the point that Sykes took a swipe at him as he was presented with an award for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television, telling him, \u201cYou give us so much. But I would love a little less. Just try less.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was so funny,\u201d Maher said, recalling his initial reaction that sparked so much outrage.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was,\u201d Mellencamp agreed. \u201cBecause outside of this ball of people that live here, nobody gives a s\u2014.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut that\u2019s what I was saying,\u201d Maher recalled. \u201cThe Democrats, I mean \u2014 for people who didn\u2019t see it \u2014 the point of it was, you\u2019ve got to\u00a0cut your celebrities loose.\u00a0You think they\u2019re helping, and they\u2019re actually hurting, because people don\u2019t see celebrities in any way like they can relate to their life, and they can\u2019t in any way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe other funny thing is that, you know, most people, you know\u2026 We don\u2019t know anything. You know, we don\u2019t know s\u2014,\u201d Mellencamp said. \u201cWe don\u2019t know s\u2014 what\u2019s really going on.
