The Jets last saw their top-pairing left-side defenceman Josh Morrissey on February 12th in a game when Canada took on Czechia at the Olympics in Italy. He appeared to sustain an injury<\/a> late in the first period, then left the game for good in the second and didn\u2019t play another game for the Canadian team for the remainder of the tournament.<\/p>\n

There was some speculation that he could still play, as he was seen skating during the run to the gold medal game, but ultimately he never did and was ruled out the day before Canada faced the United States.<\/p>\n

Tough for him, given he missed the final in last year\u2019s 4 Nations Tournament. But what does it mean for his NHL club?<\/p>\n

Today on TSN First Up, insider Darren Dreger, who is as connected as anyone to the NHL club in Winnipeg, had some insight<\/a> into his status while discussing the concept of players having to jump on planes after getting back to their team\u2019s city:<\/p>\n

\u201c..and oh by the way Josh Morrissey is going to miss a good chunk of time for the Winnipeg Jets. May not be a big deal because where the Jets are positioned in the West but that\u2019s what I\u2019m told and Jets doctors are very eager to get a look at Josh Morrissey. Obviously the injury that he sustained was worse than what was expected or feared because he didn\u2019t play so he\u2019s going to miss a chunk of time\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Following practice in Winnipeg this afternoon, head coach Scott Arniel confirmed Morrissey wouldn\u2019t play in their game on Wednesday in Vancouver but didn\u2019t indicate any sort of timeline. He basically said the Jets doctors would be evaluating him.<\/p>\n

Morrissey is officially listed on IR on the NHL media site.<\/p>\n
