Peel Police say a traffic stop that led to a foot chase has turned up a loaded gun.<\/p>\n
Investigators say just before 8 a.m. on Feb. 18, officers stopped a vehicle near Main Street and Brickyward Way in Brampton. The two occupants of the vehicle were detained as police searched for cannabis.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring the search, one of the accused parties fled on foot and a brief foot pursuit ensued and the accused person was taken into custody,\u201d said police. \u201cDuring the search of the accused, a loaded illegal handgun and a magazine containing ammunition were located.\u201d<\/p>\n
As a result, the following individuals were arrested and charged:<\/p>\n
Jamal Reid, a 28-year-old man from Brampton<\/p>\n
Unauthorized possession of a firearm
\nCarrying a concealed weapon
\nOccupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
\nPossession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
\nUnauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
\nObstruct police
\nFail to comply with release order
\nPossession of a firearm contrary to order<\/p>\n
Derek Asiedu, a 27-year-old man of no fixed address<\/p>\n

Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
\nPossession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
\nDrive a motor vehicle with cannabis readily available<\/p>\n
Both men were held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice.<\/p>\n
Police say this was the ninth firearm seized by frontline officers in Peel since the beginning of this year.<\/p>\n
