Late-night hosts reacted to Republicans claiming USA hockey Olympic victories as their own and the US supreme court<\/a> declaring Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s tariffs unconstitutional.<\/p>\n

Jon Stewart<\/p>\n

Jon Stewart<\/a> returned to his Monday-night Daily Show perch just a day after the US Olympic men\u2019s hockey team beat Canada in overtime to win the country\u2019s first gold medal since 1980. \u201cThis country is in such emotional turmoil right now,\u201d he said. \u201cA feeling that we are one nation divided, under siege. That perhaps we have crossed a Rubicon of this great American experiment, and that we, slowly and inexorably, are sliding into the abyss of fallen and broken democracies. But then!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Stewart played a clip of the dramatic winning goal by 24-year-old Jack Hughes. \u201cI know the powerful elites remain unaccountable, but he put that thing behind that other guy!\u201d he exclaimed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis country was sinking into a cesspool we can\u2019t recover from, but the vulcanized rubber disk went past the lord of the net. It was so unifying. There is nothing that can take away from the joyous moment as all Americans celebrate this incredible \u2013 wait, what the fuck?\u201d<\/p>\n

He then played a clip from the locker room celebration immediately after the game, in which Trump\u2019s FBI director, Kash Patel, was seen drinking beer with a gold medal around his neck. \u201cIs that FBI Director Kash Patel?\u201d Stewart fumed. \u201cAnd why are they putting a medal around the neck of FBI Director Kash Patel? Is Kash Patel a Make-a-Wish man? Kid? Is that what this is? And I\u2019m not trying to diminish his condition. Listen, there is currently no cure for crazy eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later in his monologue, Stewart touched on Trump\u2019s controversial tariffs, which the supreme court, even stacked with conservative justices, declared<\/a> unconstitutional in a 6-3 opinion. \u201cSomebody finally had the balls to say they were illegal,\u201d said Stewart. \u201cA court composed mostly of his own party\u2019s appointees has struck down the constitutionality of Trump\u2019s go-it-alone tariff regime. That\u2019s bound to cause him some introspection.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not quite. In a post on Truth Social, Trump called the supreme court a \u201cdisgrace to our nation\u201d and suggested the justices were an \u201cembarrassment\u201d to their families.<\/p>\n

As Stewart joked: \u201cWhen a guy who had sex with a porn star right after his wife had given birth tells you you\u2019re an embarrassment to your family, I think you have to take that seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/p>\n

On Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> Live!, the host returned after an eventful week off. \u201cWe were gone one week, and he\u2019s now at war with the supreme court,\u201d he recapped. \u201cHe\u2019s threatening a real war with Iran. He\u2019s firing off tariffs, 10%, 15%, he\u2019s got the FCC threatening talkshows. He\u2019s threatening Netflix. He\u2019s all of a sudden threatening to release the UFO files. And it really makes you stop and wonder: what the hell could be in those 3m Trump-Epstein files they\u2019re still hiding?<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s working so hard to distract us,\u201d he added. \u201cThe only thing he hasn\u2019t done is set his nipples on fire.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel also relished the supreme court\u2019s dismissal of Trump\u2019s tariffs. \u201cThis was Donald Trump\u2019s most humiliating legal defeat, even more than the one with the porn star, where he farted through the whole trial,\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n

The decision left Trump angry, Kimmel said: \u201cHe lashed out at his own handpicked justices. He called them fools and lapdogs. He said they were an embarrassment to their families. And as father to Eric and Don Jr, that is man who knows an embarrassment to his whole family.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd now, the whole thing is a mess because these companies want refunds for the tariffs they paid, but no one knows how to go about getting one,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd of course, Donald Trump doesn\u2019t give refunds. If he gives a refund, it\u2019s like when Rumpelstiltskin says his own name. He shrivels up and he disappears.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stephen Colbert<\/p>\n

\u201cJustices, you\u2019ve done something truly historic,\u201d said Stephen Colbert<\/a> on The Late Show. \u201cYou\u2019ve made people go \u2018woohoo!\u2019 about tariffs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 6-3 supreme court ruling went \u201calong douchebag lines\u201d, he explained, with the dissent from Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh \u2013 \u201cor as they\u2019re known by their DJ names, Flagman, Mr RV and the Boof Crew\u201d.<\/p>\n

The chief justice, John Roberts, \u201csmacked Trump down\u201d in the majority opinion: \u201cThe president asserts the extraordinary power to unilaterally impose tariffs of unlimited amount, duration and scope \u2026 He must identify clear congressional authorization to exercise it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you hear that, Mr President? Your tariffs are so illegal, the supreme court just ordered you to exercise,\u201d Colbert quipped.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrump was not thrilled with the court\u2019s decision\u201d, and went off in a post on Truth Social that was \u201clonger than the Unabomber\u2019s user agreement\u201d.<\/p>\n

In the screed, Trump went after the majority justices personally, calling them \u201cfools\u201d and \u201clapdogs\u201d who were \u201cswayed by foreign interests\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd Trump has been very clear that he will not be swayed by foreign interests,\u201d Colbert added sarcastically. \u201cOnly by foreign golden planes, foreign golden crown and foreign Fifa peace prize\u201d.<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/p>\n

And on Late Night, Seth Meyers<\/a> mocked Trump\u2019s claim that he read the entire supreme court decision overruling his tariffs. Or, as Trump put it: \u201cI read all the paragraphs \u2026 I read everything there is to read, and I said, \u2018Can\u2019t lose this case.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMan, that\u2019s how you know someone\u2019s a book lover \u2013 when they read all the paragraphs,\u201d Meyers deadpanned. \u201cIt sounds like an alien pretending to be a high school sophomore.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking of aliens, Trump teased the release of government documents \u201crelated to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena and unidentified flying objects\u201d.<\/p>\n

And \u201cif you\u2019re wondering why he would release that now, I will point you to a clip from this show a few months ago\u201d, said Meyers before a Late Night clip from July, in which he said: \u201cI honestly think we\u2019re one more Epstein story away from Trump announcing that UFOs are real.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, look, look, I do not have the ability to predict the future,\u201d said Meyers in the present. \u201cBut just in case I have magic powers, let me just say \u2013 because you know more is coming \u2013 that we\u2019re one Epstein story away from Trump saying, \u2018I don\u2019t think I\u2019m good at this job. I don\u2019t want to do it any more. I\u2019m tired all the time. Nobody likes me. And on top of that, my hand is so fucked up, you guys.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
