If that opportunity happens, you welcome it and you know you\u2019re excited for it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n The trade deadline is March 6<\/a> and Kane is one of the Canucks on an expiring contract expected to be on the move to a new team as part of a Vancouver rebuild. Vancouver has done that in the past with Milstein, most notably with Ilya Mikheyev<\/a>.<\/p>\n There have been various reports of the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche being interested in adding Kane and the Vegas Golden Knights have been connected to a Kane deal now as well. This final year of his contract has a cap hit of $5.125 million, and there have been various reports, too, that the Canucks would retain salary to help make a trade happen.<\/p>\n There\u2019s been suggestion in the media that the Canucks are chasing a third rounder in return for Kane. They gave up a 2025 fourth rounder to acquire him from the Edmonton Oilers last June,<\/a> and so a return featuring a fourth or better would have to be considered a win.\u00a0<\/p>\n Trade deadlines routinely do have a game-of-chicken feel to them. We\u2019ll see how long they\u2019re willing to wait on a Kane deal.<\/p>\n Advertisement 4<\/p>\n This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.<\/p>\n Article content<\/p>\n Kane, a former Vancouver Giants standout from east Vancouver, is a nine-time 20-goal man in the NHL, including tallying 24 times for the Oilers in the regular season two years ago.\u00a0There was a school of thought that coming home and playing for a new contract was going to spur Kane onto those type of totals again, but hoped-for numbers haven\u2019t materialized for him, much like they haven\u2019t for many of his Vancouver cohorts.<\/p>\n Kane has nine goals and 25 points in 56 regular season games. He\u2019s playing 16:50 a night, which is sixth amongst Vancouver forwards so far.<\/p>\n His shooting percentage is 6.6 per cent, which is the lowest of his 16-year NHL tenure. His combined career mark is 9.9 per cent.<\/p>\n Kane does have 97 career NHL playoff games under his belt, including making runs to the Stanley Cup Final the past two springs with the Oilers, and with his frame (6-foot-2, 218) and his willingness to play in high-traffic areas he seems built for the rigours of the post-season.\u00a0<\/p>\n Advertisement 5<\/p>\n This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.<\/p>\n Article content<\/p>\n He was fifth among Oilers forwards in average ice time last spring, seeing 16:29 per game on his way to scoring six times and bagging 12 points in 21 contests.<\/p>\n His best chance to get any sort of extended term and advanced dollar figure as an unrestricted free agent this summer will come with strong playoff showing. That\u2019s obviously not happening with Vancouver.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a such a different level, such a different brand of hockey,\u201d Kane said of the playoffs. \u201cEverybody sees it. You don\u2019t have to really even watch hockey that consistently to see the difference and the intensity guys are playing with and the desperation. It\u2019s the best time of year to be playing hockey. I think anybody who\u2019s been in the playoffs will tell you the same thing.\u201d<\/p>\n Even with all the rumours, Kane maintained Tuesday that he wasn\u2019t surprised there hasn\u2019t be a deal yet.
