Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a type of cancer that affects the patient\u2019s lymphatic system, with \u201cwhite blood cells called lymphocytes [that] grow abnormally and can form growths [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n According to the GoFundMe page, which lists Duguay as a \u201cCo-organizer,\u201d the athlete did not initiate the crowdfunding exercise. \u201cOur dad has never been someone who asks for help \u2026 especially when it comes to money. He has always tried to handle everything on his own and didn\u2019t want to burden anyone else with what he\u2019s going through,\u201d a description on the page read. \u201cBut after many conversations as a family, we decided to create this fundraiser for him because we\u2019ve seen firsthand the weight this battle has placed on him, both physically and financially.\u201d<\/p>\n At the time of publication, the initiative had raised nearly $21,000 from 114 donations. Its target was listed as $26,000.<\/p>\n The description also shed light on what Duguay has experienced in the wake of his diagnosis. It stated, \u201cBecause of his cancer, he hasn\u2019t been able to work the way he normally would, yet he continues to fight with everything he has. Earlier in his treatment journey, the care he received in Florida nearly cost him his life.
