She shares her perspective on living with Tourette\u2019s, and how people can offer compassion for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/article\/john-davidson-apology-bafta.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Davidson<\/a> while still acknowledging the impact of the racial slur he said during one of his tics at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/article\/bbc-apology-baftas-sinners-slur-tourettes.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BAFTAs<\/a> when Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were on stage. \u201cTics are not thoughts. They are not opinions. They are not secret beliefs hiding underneath the surface,\u201d she shared in a statement on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DVJolnqkVxo\/?hl=en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram<\/a>. \u201cThey are involuntary neurological impulses &#8211; like a sneeze or hiccup except sometimes they attach themselves to words that carry weight, history, and pain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmm1c0oyt00273b7caqo9uu6z@published\" data-word-count=\"29\">\u201cIt doesn\u2019t excuse the hurt a word carries. Words matter. History matters. Pain matters.
