When Ford called him \u201cGino Boy,\u201d Mammoliti fought back with strong words of his own.<\/p>\n But when someone called Ford \u201cfat,\u201d he was the first to stick up for him. And Mammoliti hurt when Ford got sick with cancer and later died.<\/p>\n Likeable politician with out-of-the-box ideas<\/p>\n Complicated is the best word to described the guy affectionately known as \u201cMammo.\u201d<\/p>\n Those who deal with him don\u2019t always agree with him. But it\u2019s pretty hard to not like him.<\/p>\n Advertisement 4<\/p>\n This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.<\/p>\n Article content<\/p>\n There\u2019s only one Giorgio Mammoliti.<\/p>\n Mammoliti\u2019s ideas \u2014 such as turning the Gardiner Expressway into a \u201cHigh-Line style\u201d garden and park like what they have in New York City, or bringing an NHL franchise to North York \u2014 were scoffed at initially but then later respected as progressive out-of-the-box thinking.<\/p>\n In a phone call with the Toronto Sun on Jan. 20, Mammoliti said life was good in his adopted home of Wasaga Beach and he was in good spirits.<\/p>\n Often flirting with a political comeback, Mammoliti didn\u2019t say if he had any new plans but was upbeat and jovial.<\/p>\n Sources say his fall was accidental in nature.
