{"id":499134,"date":"2026-02-25T18:56:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T18:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/499134\/"},"modified":"2026-02-25T18:56:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T18:56:08","slug":"normally-staid-bond-investors-have-a-new-biggest-worry-an-ai-bubble","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/499134\/","title":{"rendered":"Normally staid bond investors have a new biggest worry: An AI bubble"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bloom Productions | Digitalvision | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Fears over artificial intelligence are now hitting bond investors, according to the latest credit investors survey from Bank of America Global Research.<\/p>\n<p>An AI bubble is seen as the top risk for the first time, with investors expecting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/02\/23\/big-techs-ai-bond-binge-shatters-unspoken-contract-with-investors.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">surge in bond issuance<\/a> from hyperscalers, the February poll found. Some 23% of those surveyed said it was their biggest concern, compared to 9% who said so in the firm&#8217;s December poll. <\/p>\n<p>Companies including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AMZN\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon<\/a>, Google parent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/GOOGL\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alphabet<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/META\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Meta<\/a> have announced big spending plans as they scale out their AI capabilities. Investors of high-grade credit now expect $285 billion in issuance by hyperscalers this year, up from the $210 billion anticipated in December&#8217;s survey, Barnaby Martin, credit strategist at Bank of America, said in a note Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yet, investors are more sanguine on the ultimate tech disruption ahead: just 10% say that AI-driven corporate obsolescence is their big worry,&#8221; he wrote. <\/p>\n<p>Those obsolescence fears have hit the stock market in recent weeks, as concern over AI disruption spread across a variety of sectors. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/02\/06\/ai-anthropic-tools-saas-software-stocks-selloff.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Software companies<\/a>, for instance, have tumbled after announcements from AI company Anthropic about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/02\/23\/ibm-is-the-latest-ai-casualty-shares-are-tanking-on-anthropic-cobol-threat.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new AI tools<\/a>. While stocks have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/02\/24\/software-stocks-anthropic-ai.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reversed course<\/a> since the latest sell off on Tuesday, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/IGV\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF<\/a> is still down more than 25% year to date. <\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, geopolitics isn&#8217;t a big factor on bond investors&#8217; radar these days, with only 10% saying it is their top fear, despite growing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, Martin noted.
