Two individuals have been charged following an assault and attempted kidnapping in the city\u2019s southwest.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
On Feb. 17, just before midnight, while on patrol, a Calgary Police Services (CPS) sergeant\u00a0observed\u00a0three men assaulting a person near the intersection of First Street and 19 Avenue\u00a0S.W.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The men entered a Toyota Camry and fled the scene.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The victim, a man in his 20s, was transported to hospital in stable condition and has since been released.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The\u00a0suspect’s\u00a0vehicle was\u00a0located\u00a0shortly after, and officers deployed a tire deflation device, bringing the vehicle to a stop.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Two men\u00a0attempted\u00a0to flee on\u00a0foot but\u00a0were taken into\u00a0custody with the use of the Canine Unit.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Investigators believe the incident was a targeted attack and related to organized crime in Calgary.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Search warrants were executed on multiple vehicles, resulting in the seizure of substances believed to be powder and crack cocaine.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bidong Bang Teny Wang, 23, of Calgary, has been charged with kidnapping, assault, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and obstructing a peace officer.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Rick Gatwech, 22, of Calgary, has been charged with kidnapping, assault, possession for the purpose of trafficking, obstructing a peace officer, and\u00a0failing to comply\u00a0with a release order.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gatwech was\u00a0also\u00a0wanted on\u00a040 outstanding warrants.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Both are scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 26.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOur patrol officers did an exceptional job intervening quickly to prevent further harm to the victim and safely take the suspects into custody,\u201d said Staff Sergeant Don Campbell of the CPS Organized Crime Unit. \u201cTargeted or not, this kind of brazen violence has no place on our streets.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The investigation is still ongoing.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
