Late-night hosts recapped Donald Trump\u2019s interminable State of the Union address<\/a> and the homeland security secretary, Kristi Noem, using taxpayer money to travel for her alleged affair.<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> took a break from Trump\u2019s 107-minute State of the Union address<\/a> \u2013 the longest ever<\/a>, breaking his own record \u2013 to record his show on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a speech it wasn\u2019t,\u201d he summarized of the meandering address. Still, \u201cthe theme of tonight\u2019s speech was \u2018all foreigners are murderers\u2019. And Trump said zero illegal aliens have been allowed into the United States on his watch, but the door is always open to those who come in legally to be his next wife. So that\u2019s something. He bragged about DEI. He bragged about kicking 2 million people off food stamps. It was like a Christmas message from the Grinch.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you ramble incoherently for two hours is that technically still a speech or does it at some point become a conniption fit?\u201d he wondered. \u201cThe speech went on so long Kristi Noem\u2019s dog shot itself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel played several of Trump\u2019s choice divisive lines, such as: \u201cDemocrats are destroying our country, but we stopped it just in the nick of time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to say: Trump\u2019s dementia really makes me miss Joe Biden\u2019s dementia,\u201d Kimmel lamented. \u201cIt was a much friendlier dementia.\u201d<\/p>\n

He concluded with a \u201creal\u201d assessment of the union: \u201cWe have a nutjob wannabe king who\u2019s doing everything he can to censor opinions he doesn\u2019t want to hear. He has his goons arresting, incarcerating and killing American citizens. He\u2019s cut funding for cancer research at children\u2019s hospitals while he rakes in literally billions of dollars for himself and his family. He\u2019s coming after our right to vote. He\u2019s protecting pedophiles and won\u2019t explain it. He\u2019s lining the pockets of billionaires, all while neglecting the sick, the poor and the hungry \u2013 in the name of Jesus by the way, who you can read all about in the Donald Trump edition of the God Bless the USA Bible, that is made in China and available for $99.99. That is the state of the union.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stephen Colbert<\/p>\n

\u201cAccording to Trump\u2019s team, the official theme of the speech was \u2018America at 250: Strong, Prosperous and Respected\u2019,\u201d explained Stephen Colbert<\/a> on The Late Show, which taped live following Trump\u2019s speech. \u201cThough if you have to say you\u2019re strong, prosperous and respected it kind of feels like you\u2019re not. It\u2019s like getting an invite to \u2018Sheila\u2019s 50! Single, happy and absolutely loving menopause. Is it hot in here? It\u2019s hot in here. Let\u2019s punch a wall!\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cThis speech was an important opportunity for Trump,\u201d he added, \u201cbecause right now his popularity is un.\u201d According to a new CNN poll, Trump\u2019s job approval rating among all adults is a lowly 36%. The president arrived at the Capitol on Tuesday \u201clooking a little tired, but his hair was nice and fluffy\u201d, Colbert noted. \u201cPersonally, I think he could have kept his head in the cotton candy machine a little bit longer.\u201d<\/p>\n

In those nearly two hours, Trump took credit for things he had nothing to do with, fomented racial animus and rambled incoherently. \u201cIf you\u2019ve heard any of Trump\u2019s speeches before, you\u2019ll notice there really wasn\u2019t much new material here,\u201d Colbert summarized. \u201cHonoring our veterans and our first responders aside, it was a dark speech filled with divisive lies, and it\u2019s unlikely to win him much support with the voters who have grown disenchanted with the chaos and dysfunction of his second administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/p>\n

On Late Night, which taped before Trump\u2019s address, Seth Meyers<\/a> touched on Trump\u2019s own admission that he expected his speech to be long. \u201cOh yeah, I think we\u2019re all expecting that,\u201d said Meyers. \u201cYou\u2019re incapable of being brief. Even if you were just going to read a haiku, I would expect two intermissions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe tape early, so I\u2019ll go ahead and factcheck in advance: not true, not true, OJ\u2019s White Bronco was not driven by Joe Biden, not true, not true, and actually Jonathan Bailey is People\u2019s Sexiest Man Alive.\u201d<\/p>\n

During a White House briefing on Monday, Trump complained that he does not get credit for his accomplishments, \u201cbut does get credit for other people\u2019s\u201d, Meyers quipped.<\/p>\n

Trump further complained: \u201cIf I came up with a cure for cancer, they would say he should\u2019ve done it years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d Meyers responded. \u201cIf you came up with a cure for cancer, I would lose respect for cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Daily Show<\/p>\n

And on The Daily Show, Desi Lydic provided a status update on the homeland security secretary, Kristi Noem. \u201cAs head of DHS, Noem has a busy job starting wars in American cities, but somehow she seems to have found time for love,\u201d she said, citing many reports that Noem, who is married, is having a poorly concealed affair with her deputy, Corey Lewandowski. (Both have denied the rumors.) \u201cGuys, finally this administration has a sex scandal involving consenting adults,\u201d Lydic deadpanned. \u201cWe did it! USA, USA, USA!<\/p>\n

\u201cI know it\u2019s a bit unseemly, but I try to stay out of people\u2019s personal business,\u201d she continued. \u201cI mean, it\u2019s not like Kristi and Corey are flying around on a taxpayer-funded fuck plane \u2026 \u201d<\/p>\n

Well. The two have reportedly been using a luxury 737 Max jet worth $70m, outfitted with a private cabin in the back for their travel around the country on taxpayer money.<\/p>\n

\u201cOK, so they\u2019re flying around on a taxpayer-funded fuck plane,\u201d said Lydic. \u201cHow do they justify charging the country for their bang bus in the sky?\u201d<\/p>\n

On paper, they claimed they needed the large plane for \u201cimmigrant deportation flights\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh yeah, I\u2019m so sure this is the plane they\u2019re using to deport illegal immigrants,\u201d she said. \u201cCould you imagine actually being deported on that plane? And the whole time you\u2019re hearing Corey and Kristi Noem grunting in the back? I\u2019d be like, \u2018Can this plane please hurry up and land in South Sudan already?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Noem is also allegedly fussy about the details. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Lewandowski fired a Coast Guard pilot after she forgot her blanket when they switched planes.
