{"id":500012,"date":"2026-02-26T04:18:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T04:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/500012\/"},"modified":"2026-02-26T04:18:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T04:18:10","slug":"google-is-improving-earthquake-alerts-on-wear-os-watches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/500012\/","title":{"rendered":"Google is improving earthquake alerts on Wear OS watches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Google is now sending earthquake alerts to Wear OS devices even when they&#8217;re not connected to a smartphone, according to the release notes for the latest version of Google Play Services.<\/p>\n<p>Google first brought Android&#8217;s Earthquake Alerts System to Wear OS last year, but so far it was just basically mirroring the alert you received on your phone.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-image\" width=\"1200\" height=\"928\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/1772079490_627_gsmarena_001.jpg\" alt=\"Google is improving earthquake alerts on Wear OS watches\"\/><\/p>\n<p>From now on, even if your phone is too far to remain connected to your watch, the latter will still notify you about earthquakes. Of course, it will probably need a standalone internet connection to do so &#8211; thus, this most likely only applies to watches that have mobile data connectivity built-in.<\/p>\n<p>The Earthquake Alerts System uses aggregated sensor data from millions of phones to detect earthquakes. Basically, when your phone&#8217;s accelerometer detects a vibration that could indicate an earthquake, it sends that data along with a general location to Google&#8217;s servers.
