{"id":500173,"date":"2026-02-26T05:55:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T05:55:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/500173\/"},"modified":"2026-02-26T05:55:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T05:55:07","slug":"max-scherzer-reportedly-agrees-to-reunion-with-blue-jays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/500173\/","title":{"rendered":"Max Scherzer reportedly agrees to reunion with Blue Jays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mad Max is back in familiar territory for Year 19. <\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"sn-team-post-link\" data-team=\"toronto-blue-jays\" data-league=\"mlb\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/baseball\/mlb\/teams\/toronto-blue-jays\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> and Max Scherzer are in agreement on a deal, Jon Heyman of The New York Post reported early Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Sportsnet&#8217;s Ben Nicholson-Smith <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/mlb\/article\/blue-jays-talks-with-max-scherzer-getting-more-serious\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/mlb\/article\/blue-jays-talks-with-max-scherzer-getting-more-serious\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported last week<\/a> that talks between the Blue Jays and Scherzer were getting more serious, further adding that the two sides were discussing a one-year deal.<\/p>\n<p>Scherzer pitched for the Blue Jays last season and made three starts in the playoffs, including Game 7 of the World Series.<\/p>\n<p>The two-time World Series champion will return for one more crack after falling just short \u2014 he pitched 14.1 innings racking up 11 strikeouts with a 3.77 ERA and a 1.256 WHIP in three post-season starts.<\/p>\n<p>Over 85 regular-season innings, he picked up 82 strikeouts with a 5.19 ERA and a 1.294 WHIP.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scherzer is set to turn 42 midway through the 2026 season and is the second oldest active player behind fellow Hall of Fame-bound starter Justin Verlander, who signed with the Detroit Tigers on Feb. 10. <\/p>\n<p>Scherzer has spent time with seven different franchises, notably the Tigers, the Washington Nationals and the Los Angeles Dodgers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2,963 career innings, the eight-time all-star has recorded 3,489 strikeouts, which sits 11th all-time in MLB history.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Mad Max is back in familiar territory for Year 19.
