Dylan van Baarle will begin Opening Weekend as a Soudal Quick-Step<\/a> rider, lining up for Omloop Het Nieuwsblad<\/a> and Kuurne\u2013Brussels\u2013Kuurne. The Dutch powerhouse \u2014 a former winner of Omloop \u2014 impressed last weekend at the Volta ao Algarve and hopes to show himself again on the Flemish roads.Van Baarle has been preparing alongside Jasper Stuyven in recent weeks. \u201cWe\u2019ve spent a lot of time together the past few weeks because we were on Tenerife for three weeks. It was just the two of us and a soigneur, and it was super relaxed,\u201d the Dutchman said on his podcast In Koers with Wout Poels and AD journalist Marijn Abbenhuijs. <\/a>\u201cJasper has been doing that for a number of years and he\u2019d already booked two rooms last year, so we talked about it during the December camp. That\u2019s how it came together. The fact that we have the same coach <\/a>makes it extra easy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Van Baarle feels at home at Soudal Quick-Step<\/p>\n

Omloop will be the first time the \u2018renewed\u2019 Soudal Quick-Step lines up for a major Flemish Classic. \u201cWe have three guys with a free role, including Paul Magnier,\u201d Van Baarle explained of the team\u2019s internal balance. \u201cWith him, we still have to see how he does in the longer Classics and whether he\u2019ll ride all of them. In any case, we want to go as far as possible and support each other as much as we can.\u201d<\/p>\n

Van Baarle says he has quickly felt comfortable in his new Belgian environment. \u201cMy impressions of Soudal Quick-Step are good. Everything is really well organised, and Belgium is obviously the cycling country par excellence. You notice that within the team too. Everyone is really passionate \u2014 and I am as well \u2014 so it\u2019s a great environment. You feel that love for the Classics in some way. That\u2019s what they\u2019re good at, and I\u2019m really looking forward to getting started.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old already showed in the Algarve on Sunday that the legs are there, finishing tenth on the queen stage. \u201cI felt pretty good that day and thought: I\u2019m just going to try. Maximilian Schachmann was in the break, but he unfortunately dropped back. So I thought: then I\u2019ll just go full gas to the finish. It\u2019s a difficult finish, but it\u2019s a nice one to test yourself as a Classics rider.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nice to be back in Belgium now and get that feeling,\u201d Van Baarle said. \u201cAfter Omloop and Kuurne, I\u2019m going to do a top-up training camp at altitude, and I won\u2019t be back until E3 Saxo Classic, Dwars door Vlaanderen, the Tour of Flanders and Roubaix.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m happy with that programme \u2014 two blocks: first Algarve and Opening Weekend, then the other Classics,\u201d Van Baarle continued, before adding one extra bonus. \u201cThat second training camp is together with Pauline (Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot), so that\u2019s a big advantage. We probably won\u2019t train together much, but we\u2019ll spend more time together. Once the season starts again, we know it\u2019s hard to see each other.
