<\/p>\n HOOVER, Ala.-The Samford men’s tennis team opened with a strong doubles performance but could not hold the momentum in singles, falling 5-2 to UAB Wednesday at the Hoover Met Tennis Complex. With the result, the Bulldogs move to 6-5\u00a0on the season.<\/p>\n Samford’s early advantage came from a sharp effort in doubles. The team of Santiago Arredondo<\/a> and Darcy Nicholls<\/a> set the tone with a 6-4 win. The doubles point was clinched when Lukas Dvorak<\/a> and Cooper Errey<\/a> delivered a 6-3 victory, giving Samford the early 1-0 lead.<\/p>\n Singles play proved more challenging, as UAB responded by taking five of six matches. Dvorak continued his strong outing by earning Samford’s lone singles point with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win. The Bulldogs were competitive across the lineup, with three matches going the distance. Errey forced a deciding set at\u00a0and Nicholls battled, but UAB’s depth and the play of nationally ranked Ondrej Valek sealed the result in the Blazers’ favor.<\/p>\n Samford returns home Sunday, March 1 to face Wofford College for their first conference match of the season.
