Photo courtesy of Wikimedia Commons<\/p>\nTyler Reddick and\u00a0Sheldon Creed\u00a0won electric\u00a0races this past weekend,\u00a0in an exciting race weekend\u00a0at\u00a0EchoPark\u00a0Speedway.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Reddick\u00a0won the Autotrader 400 at\u00a0EchoPark\u00a0Speedway on Sunday\u00a0again\u00a0in dramatic fashion\u00a0and\u00a0won the opening race of the season, the Daytona 500.\u00a0This makes\u00a0Reddick\u00a0the sixth driver in Cup Series history to win the first two races of a given season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He joins Marvin\u00a0Panch\u00a0in 1957, Bob Welborn in 1959, David Pearson in 1976, Jeff Gordon in\u00a01997\u00a0and Matt Kenseth in 2009.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Only one of the\u00a0five other drivers\u00a0became\u00a0champion\u00a0the\u00a0year\u00a0they achieved the feat, Gordon in 1997.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kenseth in 2009 finished No. 14 in the standings after missing the cutoff for \u201cThe Chase.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Pearson finished ninth in the standings in 1976 but only raced in 22 out of the 30 races, winning 10 of them that season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Welborn finished No. 17 in the 1959 standings, winning three races while only\u00a0participating\u00a0in 29 out of the 44 races.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Finally,\u00a0Panch\u00a0finished second in 1957 after achieving six wins in 42 races.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The odds to win a championship\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0fully on Reddick\u2019s side, but it is good to note that Welborn and Pearson did not run a full\u00a0season\u2019s\u00a0worth of races which contributed to them finishing well below the champion in the standings.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The good thing for Reddick is that the 23XI Racing Toyota he drives has elite speed. His teammate, Bubba Wallace, was in the front for\u00a0almost the\u00a0entire second half of the\u00a0race\u00a0and\u00a0was leading with two laps to go before a block on Spire Motorsports\u00a0Chevrolet\u00a0driver Carson Hocevar was unsuccessful. That\u00a0led\u00a0to Reddick surging forward following a push by Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota driver Chase Briscoe for the win.\u00a0<\/p>\n
After 15\u00a0second place finishes, Sheldon Creed won the Bennett Transportation and Logistics 250 on Saturday for his first win in the O\u2019Reilly Auto Parts Series.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The win was a long time coming for the 28-year-old from Alpine, California. Creed\u2019s 15 second place finishes\u00a0is\u00a0the most all-time without a win in the O\u2019Reilly Series.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Creed has been a staple in the O\u2019Reilly Series since 2022, racing for juggernauts Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet in 2022 and 2023 and Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n
2024\u00a0was particularly\u00a0tough for Creed\u00a0as he finished second six times that year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In 2025, Creed joined\u00a0Haas\u00a0Factory Team and drove well for them, finishing No. 9 in the standings.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The 15 second place streak\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0supposed to\u00a0come to an end\u00a0this week though.\u00a0On the final lap\u00a0at Echo Park Speedway, Creed sat\u00a0third with Ross Chastain and Austin Hill fighting for the lead. Chastain then gets into the back of Hill, spinning Hill and killing his momentum in the process.\u00a0<\/p>\n
With two corners to go,\u00a0Creed inherited the lead and won it with Parker Retzlaff coming\u00a0way behind\u00a0in second.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The weekend was\u00a0very exciting\u00a0for both series and this weekend will be the showdown of all showdowns as Connor Zilisch and Shane Van Gisbergen fight it out at the Circuit of the Americas in both the Cup Series and O\u2019Reilly Series.\u00a0<\/p>\n
