A Brampton city councillor is calling on residents to speak up about crime.<\/p>\n

Rowena Santos, who represents Wards 1 and 5 as a regional councillor, has launched a public survey find out what types of crime residents are experiencing. Her goal is to do something about it.<\/p>\n

Specificially is looking at what she calls petty theft, from late-night break-ins to cars, tools stolen from a shed, and porch pirates absconding with delivered packages.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen someone tries to open your car door in the middle of the night or steals a package from your porch, it shakes your sense of safety at home,\u201d said Santos. \u201cBy hearing directly from residents, we can work together with Peel Police and our Community Safety & Well-Being Office on practical solutions that respond to what\u2019s happening in our neighbourhoods.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even though Peel Regional Police were approved to hire 475 new frontline officers in 2025 and 2026, she believes those numbers alone are not enough to calm the growing anxiety residents are feeling about crime.<\/p>\n

She said the survey will gather information on where incidents are occurring, the frequency of the crimes, and what prevention measures residents want prioritized.<\/p>\n
