{"id":501751,"date":"2026-02-26T22:45:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T22:45:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/501751\/"},"modified":"2026-02-26T22:45:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T22:45:08","slug":"toronto-man-wanted-for-second-degree-murder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/501751\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto man wanted for second-degree murder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Toronto Police identify 20-year-old Abdul Yeberebaba as a suspect in the fatal shooting of Jahkai Jack after two arrests were made in connection to the case. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Toronto police say a Canada-wide warrant has been issued for the arrest of a 20-year-old man wanted in connection with the murder of 15-year-old Jahkai Jack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Jack was shot and killed near Buttonwood and Charlton Settlement avenues shortly after 10 p.m. on June 7.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, Det.-Sgt. Phillip Campbell said the teen was just visiting the area with friends when he was shot. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThere was a group of people hanging around, possibly filming a rap video, Jahkai and a couple of his friends went to that area. There was an altercation and Jahkai ended up getting shot,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cHe was 15 years old, he was not involved in gangs, he was not engaged in criminal activity, he was simply a young person meeting friends on a summer night.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Q2YJPKZ7K5B7VO6WIBARG3JIA4.jpeg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"599\"\/>Jahkai Jack, Jahkai Jack, 15, is seen in this undated photo released by Toronto police. (Toronto Police Service handout) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Campbell called the shooting a \u201ccompletely unprovoked\u201d act of violence that has \u201cdevastated his family, his friends, and his community.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThat devastation has not gone away,\u201d Campbell said. \u201cHis family continues to live with the unimaginable loss of a child whose life was just beginning.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">An arrest warrant has been issued for Abdul Yeberebaba, 20, of Toronto, who is wanted for second-degree murder. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">On Tuesday, police said 19-year-old man Jayden Samuel-James, of Toronto, was arrested for accessory after the fact. A second man, identified by investigators as Rajveer Gill, 21, was arrested in British Columbia and is facing the same charge, Campbell said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWhen I spoke in July, I issued a warning. I said that anyone who helped the person responsible\u2026 could face charges,&#8221; Campbell said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThese two arrests demonstrate that we meant what we said.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Campbell was unable to speculate on the location of Yeberebaba. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cYou know we are looking for you\u2026 do the right thing, turn yourself in,\u201d Campbell said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cSpeak to a lawyer and arrange to surrender. Continuing to evade police will only make the situation worse.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He urged the public to contact police with any information they may have about the whereabouts of the suspect. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIf anybody out there has anything, even an idea or a theory or some idea on where he might be, give me a call, I\u2019ll investigate it,\u201d Campbell said. \u201cI want to get this person into custody.
