LA JOLLA, Calif. \u2013 The Villanova men’s tennis team fell 7-0 to UC San Diego on Wednesday morning at Northview Tennis Courts.<\/p>\n
The Tritons secured the doubles point and carried that momentum into singles play, earning victories on all six courts.<\/p>\n
UC San Diego struck first by sweeping all three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 advantage.<\/p>\n
At No. 1 doubles, Abhinav Chunduru and Trevor Nguyen defeated Ethan Carr<\/a> and Cooper Gordon<\/a>, 6-2. The Tritons followed with a 6-0 win at the No. 2 spot over Kush Anand<\/a> and Thomas Wakefield<\/a> before clinching the doubles sweep with a 6-4 victory against Quincy Jones<\/a> and Jack Sherner<\/a> at No. 3.<\/p>\n Villanova competed closely in several singles matches despite the final score.<\/p>\n At No. 3 singles, Quincy Jones<\/a> pushed Trevor Nguyen to three sets before falling 6-4, 7-5. Ethan Carr<\/a> also forced a decisive third-set tiebreak at the No. 4 position, dropping a tightly contested match 6-0, 6-7 (5-7), 10-4.<\/p>\n Thomas Wakefield<\/a> battled in a first-set tiebreak at No. 5 singles but ultimately fell 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.<\/p>\n UC San Diego earned straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 singles to secure the 7-0 result.<\/p>\n Up Next: Villanova will continue their west coast trip battling Ball State on March 1, at 3:00 p.m. in La Jolla, California.<\/p>\n RESULTS
