No wrongdoing for officers involved in 2025 Agassiz shooting: Police watchdog<\/p>\n

Agassiz RCMP officers have been cleared of wrongdoing in a 2025 shooting.<\/p>\n
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C. recently concluded their investigation of a shooting in Agassiz on June 19, 2025.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe chief civilian director has reviewed the evidence collected by IIO investigators \u2013 including medical records, police reports and witness accounts \u2013 and has determined that there are no reasonable grounds to believe that an officer may have committed an offence,\u201d The IIO stated.<\/p>\n
According to a release from the IIO on Thursday, Feb. 26, the RCMP responded to an incident at approximately 7:45 p.m. at a residence on Highway 9 between McDonald Road and Bristol Drive. At the time, it was reported as a person damaging a home.<\/p>\n
The RCMP located the affected person, and shots were fired between the police and the alleged shooter. The alleged shooter sustained serious injuries and was air lifted to hospital for treatment. The IIO began their investigation shortly after the incident.<\/p>\n
Witnesses reported as many as 10 shots being fired and glass breaking. Emergency Response Team (ERT) officers arrived and police entered the house to discover the affected person has suffered a gunshot injury.<\/p>\n
Denise Angela Norris has been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. According to court documents released earlier this year, she was deemed fit to stand trial for the charge despite Crown assertions she was unfit based on a diagnosis of \u201cunspecified psychosis with religious delusions.\u201d<\/p>\n
Norris claimed multiple times that Jesus Christ was her defence lawyer and she would take instruction from him.<\/p>\n
A forensic psychiatrist who met with Norris testified she is a deeply religious and spiritual person, who he believed suffered from religious delusions. The psychiatrist concluded that Norris was unable to understand the nature and object of court proceedings because of her mental illness. Norris maintained that she has done nothing wrong.<\/p>\n
\u201c(Norris) said she did not shoot at police and if she were to shoot at them she would have hit them. She also stated the police shot at her and stated the police shot her in the chest to kill her,\u201d court documents state. \u201cShe stated the police can make things up and they lie all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cShe discussed her view of the conduct of police and maintains she did nothing illegal when she damaged her own property,\u201d the decision from Judge Kristen Mundstock stated. \u201cIn fact, she stated the destruction of household items was an issue between her and her husband.\u201d<\/p>\n
Morris said God\u2019s jurisdiction applies over her but court documents also indicate she has acknowledged the authority of \u201cman-made\u201d or provincial laws.<\/p>\n
\u201cAccused persons are presumed fit to stand trial. While I accept that Ms. Norris has a mental disorder, I do not accept Dr. Gharakhanian\u2019s opinion that the mental disorder renders her unfit to stand trial,\u201d Mundstock wrote.<\/p>\n
A public IIO report is expected to be published after court processing.<\/p>\n
