OTTAWA \u2014 Dylan Larkin<\/a> scored in overtime but John Gibson<\/a> was the real hero as the Detroit Red Wings<\/a> edged the Ottawa Senators<\/a> 2-1 on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Larkin beat Senators goalie Linus Ullmark<\/a> on his backhand with 3:10 remaining in overtime.<\/p>\n

It was Larkin\u2019s second goal of the game after he tied it 1-1 for Detroit (34-19-6) on a power play in the second period.<\/p>\n

Gibson kept the Red Wings in the game, making 26 saves.<\/p>\n

Captain Brady Tkachuk<\/a> opened the scoring for Ottawa (28-22-8) in the first period. <\/p>\n

Ullmark stopped 18 shots in the loss.<\/p>\n

Detroit tied the game 1-1 with a power-play goal early in the second when Lucas Raymond<\/a> fed Larkin at the side of the net and he one-timed it past Ullmark.<\/p>\n

Just over two minutes later Simon Edvinsson<\/a> stepped into Tkachuk. The Senators forward\u2019s stick bounced up and hit him in the face. Tkachuk dropped to the ice and Dylan Cozens<\/a> jumped to his captain\u2019s defence. Edvinsson and Cozens were both sent to the box. <\/p>\n

Tkachuk returned to the ice before play resumed and skated to the penalty box to confront Edvinsson drawing a 10-minute misconduct. Once in the box, Tkachuk continued to voice his displeasure.<\/p>\n

Gibson made a number of big saves in the opening minutes, with his best being a stick save on Drake Batherson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Michael Rasmussen<\/a> appeared to give Detroit the early lead, but the Senators challenged the play, and a video review confirmed the Red Wings were offside.<\/p>\n
