Brady Tkachuk\u2019s first game back with the\u00a0Ottawa\u00a0Senators<\/a>\u00a0wasn\u2019t an easy one.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Senators\u00a0captain returned to the nation\u2019s capital riding the high of a gold medal with Team USA at the Olympics, but his on-ice performance hasn\u2019t been the headline.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Tkachuk was one of 20 American players who visited the White House and attended the State of the Union following an invitation from President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

But what many Canadian and\u00a0Senators fans took issue with was an AI-doctored video shared by the White House that made it appear he was disparaging Canadians.<\/p>\n

The altered clip, shared by the White House\u2019s TikTok account, inserted fabricated audio of Tkachuk referring to Canadians as \u201cmaple syrup eating f\u2014s,\u201d with the expletive bleeped in the video. The video carries a note saying it \u201ccontains AI-generated media.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s clearly fake because it\u2019s not my voice and not my lips moving,\u201d Tkachuk said following the\u00a0Senators\u00a0morning skate. \u201cI\u2019m not in control of any of those accounts. \u2026 I know that those words would never come out of my mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rest of the day didn\u2019t get any easier for Tkachuk.<\/p>\n

During the first TV timeout against the Detroit Red Wings the\u00a0Senators\u00a0showed video of all its players and staff who competed or worked at the Olympics, ending with Tkachuk and Jake Sanderson.<\/p>\n

The display earned an equal amount of boos and cheers.<\/p>\n

Tkachuk did earn the support of the home crowd when he opened the scoring with a power-play goal late in the first period.<\/p>\n

The captain was once again in the middle of things midway through the second period.<\/p>\n

Tkachuk was watching the play and when he went to turn up ice Simon Edvinsson stepped into him. Tkachuk\u2019s own stick hit him in the face, dropping him to the ice.<\/p>\n

Dylan Cozens jumped to his captain\u2019s defence and both Edvinsson and Cozens were sent to the box.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just didn\u2019t see him and just felt like he lowered his shoulder on me,\u201d Tkachuk said.<\/p>\n

Tkachuk returned to the ice before play resumed and skated to the penalty box to confront Edvinsson drawing a 10-minute misconduct.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know that was like an auto 10-minute,\u201d admitted Tkachuk. \u201cI was just expressing my frustration. I didn\u2019t realize that would be a 10-minute.<\/p>\n

Head coach Travis Green wasn\u2019t a fan of how things played out.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want him to be in the box for 10 minutes,\u201d Green said. \u201cYou don\u2019t see that call made very often.\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Senators\u00a0played a solid game but fell 2-1 in overtime, giving up a crucial two points to a division rival.<\/p>\n

Ottawa\u00a0(28-22-8) is now sit seven points back of the Boston Bruins for the final wild card in the Eastern Conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cI definitely felt that we deserved a better result,\u201d said Tkachuk. \u201cI thought we did a lot of great things (Thursday). Their goalie stood on his head and played a great game and just unfortunate we didn\u2019t get the two points that we wanted.\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Senators\u00a0schedule doesn\u2019t get any easier as they prepare for a five-game road trip. With the NHL trade deadline set for March 6,\u00a0Ottawa\u00a0doesn\u2019t have much time to prove its a contender.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got to worry about just our own destiny, our own game,\u201d said Green. \u201cWe\u2019re going to lose some games. We got a point out of (Thursday), probably should have got two. All you can do is play and play well.\u201d<\/p>\n
