Two people from the Ottawa Valley were arrested following a large seizure of drugs that officers called \u201cdangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said that a joint investigation with the Canada Border Services Agency has led to the recovery of a large amount of ketamine. <\/a><\/p>\n

The <\/a>\u201cpowerful\u201d drug is used as an anesthetic in both human and veterinary medicine<\/a>. It prevents people from feeling pain, and can hinder a person\u2019s cognitive and physical abilities by making them confused, tired and unable to stand, a fact sheet from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health reads. <\/p>\n

On Feb. 24, border officers detected ketamine<\/a> while looking at a shipment at the International Mail Processing Centre in the Greater Toronto Area. They called OPP and said they found 6 kilograms of the drug in the package. Using the information given by border services, police executed a search warrant at a home on Maloney Road in Renfrew, Ont. <\/p>\n

There, officials arrested two people and seized ketamine along with six grams of suspected cocaine and some suspected methamphetamine. Other items associated with drug trafficking, $1,300 in cash and a collapsible baton were also taken by police.<\/p>\n

Amal Nahas, 35, and Lindsay Thompson, 47, both of Renfrew are facing charges of:<\/p>\n

Possession of Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking \u2013 three counts<\/p>\n

Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000<\/p>\n

Unauthorized possession of a weapon<\/p>\n

Nahas is also charged with importing a Schedule 1 substance.<\/p>\n
