Two operating theatres are temporarily out of service after flooding early Friday morning at\u00a0Lakeshore General Hospital in Montreal\u2019s West Island.<\/p>\n
In a statement to CityNews officials said, \u201cFlooding occurred in the operating room at the Lakeshore General Hospital early this morning. Our initial information tells us that the cause of the incident is related to frozen heating coils. An in-depth analysis is underway.\u201d<\/p>\n
The hospital said the situation \u201cwas quickly brought under control and taken care of by our teams.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ten elective surgeries have been postponed, and \u201cthe users concerned are contacted directly in order to plan a resumption as soon as possible.\u201d Urgent surgeries are being maintained, with a service corridor established with\u00a0Centre hospitalier de Saint-Mary\u00a0and\u00a0H\u00f4pital de LaSalle\u00a0to ensure continuity of care.<\/p>\n
Two of the six operating theatres are temporarily non-functional due to the work required, although they were not directly affected by the water. A specialized firm will assess the moisture content in materials to determine the next steps.<\/p>\n
As for outpatient services, \u201cone room has been closed as a precaution.\u201d However, activities are continuing through internal reorganization and no appointments have been cancelled.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe safety of users and staff remains our top priority,\u201d the statement said. \u201cWe will await the results of the technical evaluations before considering a full resumption of activities in the operating room.
