Hugo Vogel \u2013 Sophomore Defender \u2013 Lyon, France \u2013 FC Basel<\/p>\n
Vogel arrives at UCF with professional experience in both France and Switzerland, having developed through the academy of Olympique Lyonnais before continuing his career with FC Basel.<\/p>\n
Born in Pierre-B\u00e9nite and raised in the Lyon metropolitan area, Vogel began his football journey with V\u00e9nissieux before joining Lyon\u2019s academy in 2013. During the 2021\u201322 campaign, he was one of only three players born in 2004 to feature for Lyon\u2019s reserve side in France\u2019s Championnat National 2, fast-tracking his rise within one of Europe\u2019s most respected development systems.<\/p>\n
His professional debut came on Nov. 25, 2021, when he appeared in a 3\u20131 UEFA Europa League victory over Br\u00f8ndby, replacing now Chelsea defender Malo Gusto. He later earned a start at right back in Lyon\u2019s group stage finale against Rangers as the club advanced as unbeaten group leaders.<\/p>\n
Following his time in Lyon, Vogel signed a four-year contract with FC Basel in July 2022. He debuted in the Swiss Cup during the 2022\u201323 season and made four senior appearances in the Swiss Super League. He also became a regular contributor for Basel II in the Swiss Promotion League, totaling 51 appearances and four goals between 2022 and 2025.<\/p>\n
On the international stage, Vogel represented France at the U16 and U18 levels. He was also part of Lyon\u2019s U19 squad that captured the 2021\u201322 Coupe Gambardella title, one of France\u2019s premier youth competitions.<\/p>\n
Standing at 5-foot-11, he brings a European tactical foundation, professional match experience, and positional flexibility to the Knights\u2019 back line.<\/p>\n
