Their biggest need is a top-four defender who can defend. They have to limit high-danger chances to help their goaltenders (who need to make a save). Additionally, the Oilers could use a third-line centre, preferably a right-shot, as well as a scoring top-six winger.<\/p>\n
With a little over $12,000 of cap space at the trade deadline, they\u2019ll need to move some money out. That said, let\u2019s take a look at which players the Jets have to offer.<\/p>\n
Brad Lambert<\/p>\n
Drafted 30th overall in 2022, Brad Lambert hasn\u2019t had much of an opportunity in the National Hockey League, playing a total of just 10 games over three seasons, where he had a goal and three points.<\/p>\n
What\u2019s a little more concerning is that the right-shot centres\u2019 numbers in the American Hockey League have declined on a year to year basis, scoring 21 goals and 55 points in 64 games in 2023-24, seven goals and 35 points in 61 games in 2024-25, and just six goals and 13 points in 32 games this season.<\/p>\n
Early this season, Frank Seravalli reported that Lambert\u2019s agency was given permission to facilitate a trade. In the past few seasons, the Oilers have given shots to first rounders who didn\u2019t find success with their draft team: Ike Howard, Matthew Savoie, and Vasily Podkolzin. Could Lambert be the next player?<\/p>\n
Lambert is considered an obvious trade candidate by Daily Faceoff and has a cap hit of $886,666.<\/p>\n
Gustav Nyquist<\/p>\n
Another player considered an obvious trade candidate is veteran Gustav Nyquist. This is the 36-year-old forward\u2019s 14th season in the league, but he\u2019s been held goal-less in his 36 games, with nine apples. He\u2019s slowed down in recent years, as he scored just 11 goals and 19 points in 79 games, but had 23 goals and 75 points in 81 games with the Nashville Predators in 2023-24.<\/p>\n
The journeyman veteran is in the final year of his contract and has a cap hit of $3.25 million. There are better options on the market.<\/p>\n
Luke Schenn<\/p>\n
Nyquist was drafted in the fourth round of the 2008 draft, while Luke Schenn was the fifth overall pick. A right-shot defenceman, Schenn began his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but has also played with the Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, Arizona Coyotes, Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks, Tampa Bay Lightning (where he won back-to-back Stanley Cups), the Canucks and Leafs again, the Nashville Predators, and now the Jets.<\/p>\n
He\u2019s had a few 20-point seasons in the past, most recently in 2022-23, but he has just one goal and seven points in 43 games this season with the Jets. Schenn has always been as a physical, defensive defenceman, something the Oilers could use for their third pair. That said, he isn\u2019t a top four defenceman.<\/p>\n
Schenn is in the final year of his contract and earns $2.75 million and is considered an obvious trade candidate, as is his brother Brayden.<\/p>\n
Logan Stanley<\/p>\n
Another soon-to-be unrestricted free agent defenceman who Daily Faceoff considers an obvious trade target is Logan Stanley. Standing at 6\u20197\u201d, 231 lbs, the left-shot defenceman has broken out in 2025-26, as he has nine goals and 18 points in 56 games, setting career-highs across the board.<\/p>\n
Like Schenn, he\u2019s considered a defensive defenceman, but hasn\u2019t had a great season defensively as opponents have 44 expected goals with Stanley on the ice during five-on-five. He\u2019s affordable, as he has a cap hit of $1.25 million, but the Oilers already have four left-shot defencemen on their roster, and should be looking to add a right-shot defenceman.<\/p>\n
