OTTAWA, ON\u202f(February 28, 2026) \u2013\u202fThe Boston Fleet came out on top\u00a0in the shootout for the first time\u00a0in three\u00a0tries\u00a0against\u00a0the Ottawa Charge\u00a0this season,\u00a0securing a 3-2\u00a0victory on\u00a0Saturday\u00a0afternoon at\u00a0TD Place\u00a0in the\u00a0first taste of\u00a0post-Olympic action for both teams.\u00a0The\u00a0game featured\u00a0the second goaltending\u00a0battle of the\u00a0season between\u00a0Team USA\u2019s Aerin Frankel and\u00a0Gwyneth\u00a0Philips facing off at either end of the ice, each now\u00a0with a win. Frankel\u00a0turned away\u00a023\/25\u00a0and 4\/5 in the shootout\u00a0to become the second PWHL netminder to reach 30 career wins,\u00a0while Philips stopped 21\/23\u00a0and 3\/5 in the shootout.\u00a0Boston\u2019s Abby Newhook was the lone scorer for the\u00a0game\u2019s\u00a0first\u00a040 minutes,\u00a0reaching the back of the net at 14:52 in the first.\u00a0Ottawa entered the third period\u00a0with 29 seconds\u00a0remaining\u00a0on\u00a0the power play, but Rebecca Leslie needed just\u00a0eight\u00a0seconds to bring the Charge even\u00a0at one\u00a0apiece.\u00a0Leslie followed\u00a0up less than two minutes later with her second goal at 2:04\u00a0to give Ottawa the lead, but Swiss hero\u00a0Alina M\u00fcller\u00a0played spoiler\u00a0tying the game at 13:26\u00a0when\u00a0her shot\u00a0deflected\u00a0off\u00a0a Charge\u00a0defender\u00a0into the back of the net.\u00a0M\u00fcller\u00a0and Hannah Brandt capitalized\u00a0in\u00a0the shootout\u00a0for Boston over Brianne Jenner\u2019s\u00a0lone shootout goal for Ottawa to give the Fleet their third-straight shootout win, but first over the Charge.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

A sold-out crowd of 8,572\u00a0took in the\u00a0action, just four shy of the Charge\u2019s attendance record at TD Place, set on April 26, 2025.\u00a0The win extended Boston\u2019s lead in the standings at 32 points\u00a0before going to New York on Thursday to face the Sirens. Ottawa\u00a0sits in\u00a0fifth at\u00a023 points, one point back from\u00a0the Sirens, as they prepare to host Seattle on Wednesday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

All three\u00a0games\u00a0in the season series\u00a0have\u00a0gone to shootout,\u00a0accounting for\u00a0three of the\u00a0league\u2019s seven\u00a0shootout games and\u00a035\u00a0of\u00a0the league\u2019s\u00a079\u00a0total\u00a0shootout attempts.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Boston\u00a0is the first team\u00a0in PWHL history to\u00a0play\u00a0three\u00a0consecutive\u00a0games with\u00a0shootout\u00a0results, winning\u00a0all three\u00a0as part of a four-game winning\u00a0streak and\u00a0six-game point\u00a0streak\u00a0dating back to Jan.\u00a07 (2-3-1-0).\u00a0Four of their last five games have\u00a0gone to\u00a0a\u00a0shootout,\u00a0and they have\u00a0now\u00a0set\u00a0a new\u00a0team record with five shootouts\u00a0this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ottawa, who won the first two games of the season series by\u00a0shootout,\u00a0entered the\u00a0game\u00a0a\u00a0perfect 5-for-5\u00a0this season\u00a0in games beyond regulation,\u00a0a\u00a0PWHL record.\u00a0The other three wins were\u00a0each\u00a0secured in\u00a0overtime.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Both Ottawa and Boston continue their clean record in overtime this season, with neither giving up\u00a0a goal\u00a0in\u00a03-on-3\u00a0action.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Charge\u00a0lost at TD Place\u00a0for\u00a0the first time since\u00a0Dec.\u00a02, ending a team\u00a0record\u00a0four-game winning streak on home ice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Fleet have played\u00a0in eight\u00a0straight\u00a0games\u00a0decided by one goal,\u00a0dating back to their last\u00a0shootout\u00a0at TD Place\u00a0on Dec. 27.\u00a0Prior to that, each of\u00a0Boston\u2019s first\u00a0seven games\u00a0were\u00a0decided by multiple goals.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Both teams scored a\u00a0power play goal\u00a0today\u00a0and continue to lead the league\u00a0in\u00a0percentage of\u00a0total goals scored with the player advantage\u00a0with Boston at\u00a029.4% of their goals and Ottawa at 27.5% of their total\u00a0goals.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Aerin Frankel\u00a0became the second PWHL netminder to\u00a0win 10 games\u00a0this season and\u00a0reach\u00a030\u00a0career\u00a0regular season\u00a0wins\u00a0(also Ann-Ren\u00e9e Desbiens,\u00a010\u00a0\/\u00a032, MTL), coming in her\u00a054th\u00a0career\u00a0start.\u00a0The newly minted\u00a0Olympic gold\u00a0medalist\u00a0was\u00a0between\u00a0the pipes for her fifth shootout of the season,\u00a0allowing just one goal to bring her season record to 3-2.\u00a0She has now faced\u00a030 shootout\u00a0attempts\u00a0this season,\u00a0twice\u00a0as many as\u00a0the\u00a0previous\u00a0single season record\u00a0of\u00a015.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Alina M\u00fcller\u00a0stayed hot coming out of\u00a0an All-Star\u00a0Olympic\u00a0performance\u00a0and\u00a0bronze medal\u00a0victory\u00a0with a\u00a0game-tying\u00a0goal, shootout goal,\u00a0and an assist\u00a0for\u00a0her third multi-point game of the season.\u00a0The Swiss\u00a0and Fleet alternate captain\u00a0extended her scoring streak to\u00a0four,\u00a0dating back to Jan. 14 (1G, 4A),\u00a0the longest active assist streak in the league and\u00a0one\u00a0game\u00a0shy of her career-high\u00a0point streak\u00a0set last season from Jan. 11 to Feb. 12, 2025 (2G, 5A).\u00a0M\u00fcller\u00a0also had a pair of shootout goals in Boston\u2019s last game on Jan. 28 to lead the Fleet over the Sirens.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hannah Brandt\u00a0recorded her fourth\u00a0shootout\u00a0goal of the season\u00a0to tie Ottawa\u2019s\u00a0Brianne Jenner, who also scored in\u00a0today\u2019s\u00a0shootout, for the league lead.\u00a0The\u00a0Fleet forward leads the league with two shootout winning goals and 10 attempts,\u00a0while\u00a0continuing\u00a0to look for her first goal of the season in regulation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Abby Newhook\u00a0scored her fifth goal of the season to bring her into a tie with New York\u2019s Casey O\u2019Brien for second among the league\u2019s rookies. She now has points in three consecutive games dating back to Jan. 28 (2G, 1A) matching her season high set from Nov. 29 to Dec. 7 in her second through fourth\u00a0career\u00a0PWHL\u00a0games.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rebecca Leslie\u00a0has a pair of goals in each of her last two games,\u00a0including\u00a0a power play marker\u00a0in\u00a0both.\u00a0The third year forward\u00a0fired a career-high eight\u00a0shots on goal and\u00a0continues\u00a0a breakout campaign\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0seen her score 10 goals (3PPG) across 17 games \u2013 including five in her last four games \u2013 and 16 total points on the season\u00a0to tie for the league lead.\u00a0During the Olympic break, Leslie won the Accuracy Shooting Contest at the Ottawa Senators\u2019 annual Skills Competition on Feb. 22, hitting all four targets in 9.542 seconds.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jenner\u00a0scored in her third-straight shootout\u00a0against the\u00a0Fleet\u00a0with\u00a0her fourth\u00a0shootout goal\u00a0of\u00a0the season,\u00a0while\u00a0also\u00a0tallying\u00a0a secondary helper on\u00a0Leslie\u2019s first goal. The assist was the Ottawa captain\u2019s 16th\u00a0point\u00a0of\u00a0the season, surpassing her 2024-25 total and\u00a0moving into a tie for the league lead\u00a0in scoring.\u00a0As alternate captain for Team Canada, Jenner tallied three points (1G, 2A) for the silver medalists in Milan.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gwyneth\u00a0Philips\u00a0recorded her first shootout loss of the season, after winning her last three starts against Frankel.\u00a0The two U.S. netminders combined\u00a0to\u00a0produce\u00a0an\u00a0Olympic\u00a0record shutout streak of 352:17, with Philips turning away all 26 shots she faced in two games.\u00a0Philips 15 starts this season are\u00a0the second most in the league, one fewer than\u00a0New York\u2019s Kayle Osborne.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Keller\u00a0continued her\u00a0feverish February\u00a0with the primary assist on\u00a0M\u00fcller\u2019s game-tying goal, her team-leading 12th point of the season.\u00a0The U.S. gold medal-winning\u00a0goal scorer has yet to go more than one game without a point this season\u00a0and comes\u00a0off\u00a0an Olympic\u00a0tournament\u00a0where she\u00a0tied for the lead in scoring with nine points.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hadley\u00a0Hartmetz\u00a0recorded her third assist of the season, playing on\u00a0the first defensive pairing with\u00a0Keller\u00a0in her 12th game of the season.\u00a0The blue\u00a0liner\u00a0played in just two games for Boston\u00a0last year in\u00a0an injury\u00a0shortened\u00a0rookie\u00a0season.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Susanna Tapani\u00a0broke a three-game PWHL scoring drought\u00a0that lasted through the Olympics with\u00a0the secondary assist on\u00a0M\u00fcller\u2019s game-tying goal.\u00a0The Finnish forward has four goals and five assists in 15 PWHL games this season.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Emily Clark\u00a0tallied\u00a0the primary assist on\u00a0Leslie\u2019s first goal\u00a0and has points in consecutive games for the first time this season\u00a0with a goal and two assists dating back to Jan. 28. The Canadian Olympian\u00a0and Charge alternate captain scored two goals and an assist across seven games in Milan.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Loren Gabel\u00a0took the ice for her first game of the 2025-26 PWHL season after\u00a0signing with the Fleet on Jan. 26 from the team\u2019s\u00a0Reserve Player List. The veteran forward has been a member of the Fleet since the inaugural season, contributing 10 points (6G, 4A) in 37 career games across her first two seasons.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Olivia Zafuto\u00a0played in\u00a0her second Fleet game of the season after\u00a0signing\u00a0from\u00a0the team\u2019s Reserve Player List\u00a0on Friday.\u00a0The defender played\u00a013 games for New York during the\u00a0inaugural\u00a0season,\u00a0contributing one assist.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Zoe Boyd\u00a0and\u00a0Olivia Mobley\u00a0were\u00a0placed on long-term injured\u00a0reserve\u00a0on\u00a0Feb. 13 and\u00a017 respectively,\u00a0with\u00a0upper-body injuries\u00a0sustained during practice over the Olympic break.\u00a0In Boston\u2019s 14 games coming into today, Boyd\u00a0played\u00a0in\u00a012 while Mobley\u00a0played in 10.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
