Shia LaBeouf blamed his Mardi Gras bar brawl arrest<\/a> on his fear of gay people.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll be honest with you, big gay people are scary to me,\u201d the former child star boldly admitted in an interview with Andrew Callaghan\u2019s Channel 5, which was posted on YouTube Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I\u2019m like standing by myself and three gays are next to me, touching my leg, I get scared. I\u2019m sorry. If that\u2019s homophobic, then I\u2019m that. Yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shia LaBeouf (pictured above in an interview shared on YouTube Saturday) blamed his recent Mardi Gras bar brawl arrest on his fear of \u201cbig gay people.\u201d Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan\/YouTube<\/p>\n

The actor (pictured above in a mugshot photo taken earlier this month) was arrested on Feb. 17 after he was involved in a drunken physical altercation with two men wile celebrating Mardi Gras. Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office<\/p>\n

After clarifying that his description of events only \u201chappened one time,\u201d he insisted, \u201cWell, that\u2019s why I, umm, got arrested.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am wrong for touching anyone. Ever. And that\u2019s the end of my statement on this whole s\u2014t,\u201d he closed, adding that he did not want to describe the situation as him being \u201cgroped and surrounded.\u201d <\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the interview, the actor, 39, clarified: \u201cI\u2019m good with gay, [but] be gay over there, though. Don\u2019t be gay in my lap.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why. I was drunk and it\u2019s Mardi Gras. So, everything I\u2019m saying is nonsense,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

LaBeouf went on to divulge intimate details about his mental health issues, saying that he feels triggered to respond when his \u201cmasculinity\u201d is \u201cchallenged.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cMy dad was raped by his cousin. So, he was in my ear all the time,\u201d he said, noting that the issue is something he\u2019s potentially had for many years. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never had no problem with gay people. Never. I remember paying for people\u2019s transition surgery when I was f\u2014king around on the internet heavy. I\u2019ve never been adversarial towards it,\u201d LaBeouf doubled down. <\/p>\n

The \u201cHoles\u201d star acknowledged that his behavior in the physical altercation was \u201cbulls\u2014t,\u201d but added that he\u2019s \u201cnot into\u201d the idea of going back to rehab<\/a> \u2014 despite reports that his ex Mia Goth<\/a> wants him to go \u2014 because he doesn\u2019t think he\u2019ll find \u201canswers\u201d to his problems in a rehab facility. <\/p>\n

LaBeouf (pictured above heading to a spa with his now-ex Mia Goth on Jan. 8, 2025) noted his behavior in the incident was \u201cbulls\u2014t,\u201d but said he doesn\u2019t want to go back to rehab for his drinking. BACKGRID<\/p>\n

The \u201cTransformers\u201d star (seen entering New Orleans Criminal Court on Thursday) added that he doesn\u2019t think he has a drinking problem, but instead struggles with a \u201csmall man complex.\u201d AP<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think I have a drinking problem. I think I have a different problem and I\u2019m gonna address it,\u201d he said. \u201cI think I have a small man complex.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s something that has to do with anger and ego more so than my drinking.\u201d <\/p>\n

LaBeouf was arrested on Feb. 17<\/a> and charged with two counts of simple battery after he was allegedly involved in a bar brawl with two men while celebrating Mardi Gras in New Orleans. <\/p>\n

Footage of the incident showed the actor yelling gay slurs at the men<\/a>, calling them \u201cf\u2014\u2014ts\u201d while throwing punches at them. At one point, he was captured on video head-butting one of the men<\/a>, which, according to the police report, left him with a possibly broken nose. <\/p>\n

LaBeouf (seen above being taken into custody by New Orleans police on Feb. 18) appeared in court for his arrest on Thursday and was ordered to pay a $100,000, attend rehab and undergo a drug testing program. AP<\/p>\n

Hours after he was released from jail, LaBeouf quickly resumed his partying<\/a> that night. The next day, he was spotted going for a run before <\/a>heading to church for Ash Wednesday service. <\/p>\n

The actor appeared in court<\/a> for the incident on Thursday where Judge Simone Levine ordered him to attend rehab, undergo a drug testing program and pay a $100,000 bond as conditions of his release from custody.<\/p>\n

In the most recent update, a new warrant for LaBeouf\u2019s arrest<\/a> was issued by the New Orleans Police Department on Friday in connection to the original bar altercation.<\/p>\n
