Maybe Jannik Hansen will be the next general manager of the Vancouver Canucks.<\/p>\n

At least, that\u2019s what some Canucks fans were calling for after Hansen\u2019s latest appearance on Vancouver sports radio.<\/p>\n

The retired Canucks winger appeared on Sportsnet\u2019s 650\u2019s Canucks Central<\/a> on Friday, where he was asked about Vancouver\u2019s decision to try and trade Tyler Myers.<\/p>\n

Even though a Myers trade seems close<\/a>, Hansen wasn\u2019t enthralled with the idea.<\/p>\n

Instead, he had other suggestions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think [Myers] is a very serviceable defenseman,\u201d Hansen said. \u201cHe\u2019s a defenseman you\u2019d want around the young guys.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd at the same time, I don\u2019t think his value is at a point where you\u2019re jumping all over this with a bona fide prospect or a first-round draft pick.\u201d<\/p>\n

He\u2019s not wrong about that, with reports suggesting the Canucks were offered a second-round pick<\/a> for Myers by the Detroit Red Wings.<\/p>\n

While second-round picks are nice, Hansen had his eyes on the bigger picture.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe you look at [trading] Hronek instead, because that\u2019s a player you could potentially get a first-round [pick] plus more based on how he\u2019s playing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c[Trading] Hronek is easy for me because you have a Tyler Myers and he\u2019s that veteran present on the blue line.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trading Hronek would certainly net the Canucks a haul. When they acquired him four years ago, the cost was a first and second round pick, although the Canucks did get a fourth-rounder back in return for Hronek.<\/p>\n

If the Canucks were serious about collecting assets to kickstart a rebuild, trading Hronek would be the boldest move they could make. He\u2019s easily their most valuable veteran asset.<\/p>\n

Of course, that doesn\u2019t mean he\u2019s actually available.<\/p>\n

On the 100% Hockey with Millard and Shannon podcast, Canucks president Jim Rutherford was asked if Hronek was among the short list of players<\/a> who wouldn\u2019t be traded by Vancouver.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, 100 per cent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Not only has Hronek been called untouchable, but Rutherford also said he\u2019s a candidate to be the team\u2019s next captain.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe would be on that very short list for sure,\u201d Rutherford said when asked if Hronek could be the next captain of the Canucks.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has all the qualities to be a very good captain,\u201d he said. \u201cWhat you see on the ice is what you see off the ice. He\u2019s a leader.\u201d<\/p>\n

The idea that he could captain the Canucks perplexed Hansen.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would be shocked if they pick him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t have him be the face of the franchise, not wanting to talk to the media. It just can\u2019t happen.\u201d<\/p>\n
