The Senators outshot the Maple Leafs 16-2 in the first period after Toronto recorded the first two shots of the game. In total, Ottawa had 19 straight shots until Matthews was stopped by Ullmark at 1:30 of the second period.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt shows you how well we played,\u201d Ottawa coach Travis Green said. \u201cWe talk a lot about our 200-foot game and it was on point tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cozens put the Senators up 2-1 at 3:03 of the second period. Chabot’s shot from the left point deflected off Maple Leafs defenseman Troy Stecher<\/a>‘s left arm to Cozens, who scored into an open net from in front.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought we started better,\u201d Matthews said. \u201cI don\u2019t know, we just kind of lost it there. Just disconnected throughout all three zones. Just bad, fairly embarrassing to be honest with you. We need to have more pride in our play no matter where we are at, no matter what the situation is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Batherson pushed the lead to 3-1 at 13:05 with a snap shot off the far post from low in the right circle after Toronto defenseman Jake McCabe<\/a>\u00a0turned the puck over. The goal ended Batherson’s 10-game goal drought in which he had 16 shots without scoring.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always nice to contribute especially going through a stretch like that,\u201d Batherson said. \u201cObviously getting a lot of chances but just not finding a way. You just have to stick with it and they\u2019ll come and luckily they did tonight.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s frustrating. I\u2019ve been through a lot of stretches like that throughout my career. It still makes you as mad as the first time going through that but it is what it is.
