For many gardeners, Seedy Saturday marks the beginning of the growing season.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s edition of the event was bustling today, with dozens of gardening enthusiasts showing up at Algoma Public Health to check out the various seed vendors and gardening-related businesses.<\/p>\n
Held in communities across the country in early spring, Seedy Saturday is part of a larger movement aimed at\u00a0bringing people together\u00a0to cultivate their own food, flowers and herbs.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean, everybody’s sort of stuck inside during the winter, so we’re just trying to get people out here,\u201d said Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society president Rod Morrison.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’re trying to get kids and youth involved in things like growing their own garden, supporting people making their own food and stuff like that.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’re all just really strong gardeners, so we just like being out in the community encouraging people to garden, whether it’s growing indoor plants in the winter, or entering flower competitions during the summertime \u2014 or just growing the best garden you can.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sault Ste.
