The Canada Energy Regulator has launched a new online portal aimed at speeding up regulatory filings and improving access to information for companies and the public.<\/p>\n
The CER Portal provides a secure, single access point for certain regulatory submissions, including project notifications and applications for pipelines under 40 kilometres in length under Section 214 of the Canadian Energy Regulator Act.<\/p>\n
Impacted Canadians, including landowners and Indigenous communities, can also use the platform to submit Statements of Concern related to those projects.<\/p>\n
The regulator said the portal centralizes project information, including document links, templates and work instructions, and offers built-in guidance to help users prepare submissions. It is also designed to enhance security and reduce administrative burden for both applicants and staff.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe CER Portal is a transformative step forward for the CER by advancing how we serve Canadians through faster, more transparent, and efficient regulatory processes,\u201d chief executive officer Tracy Sletto said in a statement. \u201cIt demonstrates our commitment to regulatory excellence as we further streamline and improve regulatory processes, which helps improve Canada\u2019s global competitiveness.\u201d<\/p>\n
The portal was developed in alignment with the federal government\u2019s Digital Ambition plan to modernize public services. It also builds on the regulator\u2019s Red Tape Review report released in September 2025, which outlined efforts to reduce regulatory burden.<\/p>\n
The CER regulates about 126 companies operating more than 73,000 kilometres of pipelines and 1,600 kilometres of international power lines. The agency assesses applications to determine whether proposed projects are in the public interest, while overseeing safety and environmental protection standards and recognizing the rights of Indigenous Peoples.<\/p>\n
