I would say that you have not done a traffic study. You will find that 24th Avenue between King George Highway and 160th Street is backed up in that area every day, especially during peak rush hour. In order for 24th Avenue to be able to handle the extra traffic from the ramps, you would have to widen 24th Avenue to six lanes or even eight lanes wide to handle the extra traffic.

I saw that you are only putting on- and off-ramps on the north side of 24th Avenue overpass. Why are you not putting on- and off-ramps on the south side of the 24th Avenue overpass? Right now, if you are coming from the border or 8 Avenue, you have to exit at 16th Avenue and then drive east to 168th Street and drive up to 24th Avenue, or go west to King George Highway up to 24th Avenue. Because of this, there is a very high need to have on- and off-ramps on the south side of the 24th Avenue overpass on Highway 99.

I just saw the picture of the new overpass for 20th Avenue and I do not see any on- or off-ramps. How in the world can you not put on- and off-ramps on a brand-new overpass. So, when you are finished you are going to add them later like you want to do with 24th Avenue. Also, the new overpass should be six lanes to be able to handle future growth.

The overpass on Highway 99 needs to be rebuilt with five lanes and on- and off-ramps to be added to the east side of the 152nd Street overpass so you can go north or south on 152nd Street.

Currently, if you are coming from 16th Avenue on Highway 99, the only next exit is King George Highway. If you want to go north on 152nd Street, you have to drive on King George Highway to 152nd, and that is about a 15-minute drive or longer depending on traffic. If you were able to have an exit on the 152nd Street overpass that allows you to go north, it would only take seven minutes. The same goes for going toward the border from 152nd Street. It would save time and take traffic off the side streets.

So, in conclusion, since the City of Surrey says that you, the province, is responsible for the work on Highway 99, please do not waste taxpayers’ money by not building the correct overpasses.

I know the previous city government said that the 20th Avenue overpass would have on- and off-ramps, and there was no plans for on- and off-ramps for 24th Avenue overpass because that road is already overcrowded with vehicles. I have not seen any car counting being done on 24th Avenue in the last two years.

Alexander Hannig, South Surrey

LETTER: Surrey plans for 20 and 24 Avenue overpasses are flawed Published 7:00 am Sunday, March 1, 2026…

[194299
49,48,87674
0":"post-507673","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-surrey","8":"tag-ca","9":"tag-canada","10":"tag-surrey
["GET
