Surrey\u2019s countryside has seen significant enhancements, including new playgrounds, walking trails, and upgraded visitor centres, aimed at improving health and well-being and fostering a connection with nature.<\/p>\n
\u00a0These developments span the 10,000-acre \u2018Countryside Estate\u2019 managed by Surrey County Council and Surrey Wildlife Trust, reflecting a 2020 commitment to cost-effective and sustainable management.<\/p>\n
Key improvements include upgraded car parks with better layouts and safety features, refurbished visitor centres at Newlands Corner and Basingstoke Canal Centre, and over 75 miles of self-guided trails across 22 sites. New accessible paths have been added at Newlands Corner, Norbury Park, and Staffhurst Wood, along with expanded natural play areas to support outdoor learning and family visits.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Enhanced toilet facilities, including compostable units, have been installed at Basingstoke Canal Visitor Centre and Norbury Park. Volunteer contributions have been exceptional, with over 56,000 hours dedicated to conservation and access work.<\/p>\n
Two new public access sites, Tice\u2019s Meadow and Grafton Stables, have been introduced, expanding green space and biodiversity benefits. New information boards with maps and QR-linked resources have been installed, and a refreshed fleet of vehicles, including an electric waste collection vehicle, supports sustainability efforts.<\/p>\n
Log seating has been provided to over 75 schools to enhance outdoor learning, and visitor confidence has increased, with 80% of surveyed individuals finding trail navigation easier.<\/p>\n
