Michael Buckner\/Variety via Getty Images <\/p>\nWoody Harrelson had a \u201ctough\u201d time delivering a speech to honor his friend and the night\u2019s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Harrison Ford, at Sunday\u2019s Actor Awards.<\/p>\n
Harrelson began his remarks with a quip about how most of the actors in the room would be \u201closers\u201d by the end of the night. When most of the audience didn\u2019t laugh, he conceded, \u201cThat didn\u2019t go quite as\u2026 Anyway\u2026\u201d before making a similar comment from the teleprompter. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, this will probably go the same road,\u201d he began, before telling the crowd, \u201cPeople sometimes complain about actors getting awards. Isn\u2019t the life we\u2019ve been awarded enough? But in truth, 80 percent of you will get lessons in humility this evening,\u201d he said to silence. \u201cOK, that\u2019s what I expected.\u201d<\/p>\n
The jokes continued not to land for a while, which Harrelson blamed on the crowd. Addressing Ford, he added, \u201cYou have more talent in your little finger than I have in my little finger.\u201d He continued, \u201cOf all the actors in the world\u2026 you\u2019re one of them. Everyone in this industry\u2026 knows you.\u201d When he finally got a few laughs, Harrelson told the audience, \u201cThanks for warming up a little.\u201d<\/p>\n
He pushed through to tell the story of how Ford asked him to present him the award, despite the fact that they have never appeared in a movie together.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe wanted me to present this award to him, and I called him a couple days later and said I would. He said, \u2018To be totally forthcoming, I asked Helen Mirren, she turned me down. And then I asked Kamala Harris, she couldn\u2019t do it.\u2019 I said, \u2018Dude, let me just stop you right there. Am I in the top 10?\u2019 He said, \u2018I can count you on one hand,\u2019 which I took to mean three fingers. I\u2019m happy to take the bronze\u2014just happy to make the podium,\u201d he said, once again to silence. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou guys are tough, man. I f—ing write these jokes for you,\u201d he complained. \u201cAnyway,\u201d he said, as he became distracted by Kate Hudson in the audience. \u201cOh, hi. I just saw Kate!\u201d<\/p>\n
Harrelson tried another joke, which drew minimal response, before he was finally granted another moment of reprieve. \u201cHarrison is a true renaissance man\u2014iconic actor, distinguished pilot, and a master carpenter who built his own home,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t know how to work the coffee machine, and it\u2019s a French press.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou guys are finally gettin\u2019 me. Thank you. It\u2019s about time,\u201d he said after he got a few chuckles.<\/p>\n
\u201cListen, I realize there\u2019s too much of me in this tribute to Harrison, but I\u2019m an actor. What do you expect?\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
Harrelson managed to pull it together by the end, when he finally presented Ford with the award. \u201cI have a dual purpose to honor my friend, the esteemed living legend, Harrison Ford, and two, to discourage any other friends of mine from asking me do this again.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNow, it is with incredible pleasure that I present to you the recipient of the 2026 SAG-AFTRA life achievement award\u2014the timeless American treasure, the man himself, my dear buddy Harrison Ford.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ford joked after he ascended the stage, \u201cThank you, Woody, for that restricted introduction.\u201d<\/p>\n
Harrison, meanwhile, drew easy laughs from his first joke of the evening, telling the crowd, \u201cI am quite humbled. I\u2019m in a room of actors, many of whom are here because they\u2019ve been nominated to receive a prize for their amazing work, while I\u2019m here to receive a prize for being alive.\u201d<\/p>\n
