Michael Jordan calls Denny Hamlin the \u201cmastermind\u201d behind their 23XI NASCAR racing team<\/a>. Hamlin calls their co-ownership a \u201cperfect partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n

The team has been nothing shy of perfect behind driver Tyler Reddick so far early in 2026.<\/p>\n

Reddick became the first driver in Cup Series history to\u00a0win the first three races<\/a>\u00a0of the season Sunday. He started the first road course race of the year from pole position, then held off hard-charging Shane van Gisbergen for the victory at the Circuit of the Americas<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When Reddick’s Toyota zoomed across the finish line, Jordan was celebrating with the pit crew as the basketball Hall of Famer and six-time NBA champion<\/a> exchanged high-fives and hugs.<\/p>\n

Reddick has been seeing a lot of postrace smiles from Jordan \u2014 after he\u00a0won the Daytona 500<\/a>\u00a0and then\u00a0again in Atlanta<\/a>. Reddick said Jordan reminded him last week that he \u201cdoes things in threes,\u201d referring to Jordan’s NBA championships clusters with the Chicago Bulls<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was really glad to live up to that standard,\u201d Reddick said.<\/p>\n

Jordan’s having so much fun, he now wants to go for four.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m going to Phoenix,\u201d Jordan said, noting the next race on the calendar scheduled for next Sunday.<\/p>\n

And why not? The team is having a lot of fun on its march through NASCAR history.<\/p>\n

Jordan and Hamlin took on NASCAR with\u00a0a federal antitrust lawsuit<\/a>. The settlement in December was considered a major legal victory that secured a permanent franchise-style model and ensured the team would remain in business for the long-term.<\/p>\n

Jordan gives Hamlin the credit for building the race-winning team on the track, specifically noting Hamlin’s pursuit of Reddick as a driver.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe’s the mastermind,\u201d Jordan said. \u201cI just put up the money. Denny\u2019s done an incredible job building this team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hamlin gave the compliment right back.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s a perfect partnership,\u201d Hamlin said. \u201cThis doesn’t work out if he doesn\u2019t give me a lot of autonomy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hamlin, who also drives for Joe Gibbs Racing, said he wanted to be as hands-on as possible when building the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to make sure if it failed it was because of something I did,\u201d Hamlin said. \u201cThis team had three employees working at. We had zero. We didn\u2019t buy a team, we just built it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bringing in Reddick has proven almost priceless.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old driver raced to his first win with 23XI at COTA in 2023. He was second at Daytona in 2025, but a season that started with such promise ended winless.<\/p>\n

Now, he seems unbeatable.<\/p>\n
