{"id":510395,"date":"2026-03-02T23:40:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-02T23:40:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/510395\/"},"modified":"2026-03-02T23:40:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T23:40:13","slug":"b-c-to-adopt-permanent-daylight-saving-time-after-springing-forward-one-more-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/510395\/","title":{"rendered":"B.C. to adopt permanent daylight saving time, after springing forward one more time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>British Columbia is adopting year-round <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/11708243\/daylight-saving-time-2026-canada-begins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">daylight saving time<\/a>, meaning that clocks will spring forward by one hour for the last time on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>After that, there will be no more seasonal time changes in the province, Premier <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/david-eby\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Eby<\/a> said Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The decision means B.C. will be on the same clock as the Yukon throughout the year and will match Alberta from November to March. The province will also remain one hour ahead of Washington state, Oregon and California during the winter months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we change our clocks twice a year, it creates all kinds of problems,\u201d Eby said in announcing the new policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKids get up at the same time, even though the clocks changed. Dogs get up at the same time, even though the clocks changed. Parents lose sleep. Kids lose sleep. And we want to help give them the push that they need. Someone\u2019s got to go first. To be fair, the Yukon went first and we thank them for that. But we\u2019re going to give them a push. The vast majority of them are in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tMore on Politics<br \/>\n\t\t\tMore videos\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>In Canada, Saskatchewan is the lone daylight saving time holdout, with only a few border communities making the seasonal change.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade said it is concerned about the province\u2019s decision without coordination from neighbouring jurisdictions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe unilateral change in time is an unwelcome distraction that will make it more difficult to attract and retain businesses in British Columbia,\u201d Bridgitte Anderson, president and CEO, said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe choice to change the time unliterally will create an additional headache for businesses operating on both sides of the border.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses also called the move an attempt to distract.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s announcement will be a surprise to small businesses and comes after a rushed and limited consultation process,\u201d Ryan Mitton, CFIB Director of Legislative Affairs for B.C., said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile some may be relieved not to change the clocks each year, the lack of coordination with other jurisdictions risks causing confusion and disruption. This appears motivated by an attempt to distract from the province\u2019s $13-billion deficit, not genuine concern for the impacts of the time change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChanging the clocks will not change the channel on the recent B.C. budget, which is a disaster for small businesses.
