The Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> have been one of the most aggressive teams this offseason, making a splash in free agency after finishing runner-up to the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> in 2025.<\/p>\n

For starters, the team signed Dylan Cease to a seven-year contract while also securing the signatures of Kazuma Okamoto and Cody Ponce.<\/p>\n

That said, despite a deep rotation, the Jays didn’t stop there.<\/p>\n

They continued to improve their roster while away at Spring Training, re-signing three-time Cy Young Award winner and two-time World Series Champion Max Scherzer.<\/p>\n

Following the signing, Scherzer re-joined the Blue Jays at camp to prepare for the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

There he caught up with his old and new teammates, as well as manager John Schneider.<\/p>\n

Schneider recently spoke<\/a> to the media about having Scherzer back in the clubhouse. “Good catching up with gramps,\u201d Schneider said with a smile. \u201cNice to have him back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schneider who is preparing for his fifth season in charge of the Jays just recently turned 46-years-old, about five years older than the 41-year-old Scherzer.<\/p>\n

Although Scherzer posted the highest ERA (5.19) of his career last season in 17 appearances after recovering from thumb inflammation, he still can provide Toronto with plenty of expertise.<\/p>\n

Not to mention, the former eight-time All-Star reached another level in the postseason, making three appearances, going 1-0 with a 3.77 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 14 1\/3 innings pitched.<\/p>\n

With other Blue Jays like Ernie Clement and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. headed to the World Baseball Classic, Scherzer and the rest of the Jays will stay in camp to prepare for Opening Day March 27.<\/p>\n
