At the 2026 Producer\u2019s Guild Awards, Colbert took home the prize for Outstanding Producer of Live Entertainment, Variety, Sketch, Standup & Talk Television. His show beat out other shows such as SNL, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. It was not just an award that Colbert earned among many of his other accolades, but a pointed victory in the face of CBS\u2019s devastating decision. <\/p>\n

Colbert Didn’t Allow CBS to Have the Last Laugh <\/p>\n

Stephen Colbert has always had a no-holds-barred approach to bringing his brand of humor to his show. After his time on the politically minded satire show, The Daily Show<\/a>, he brought the same level of honesty to his programming. The Late Show has been a beloved institution for decades, and CBS’s swift decision not only removed Colbert from the network but also eliminated The Late Show. <\/p>\n

This could have been a devastating blow for any host in his prime. The cancellation of the series was tragic for a time, but this new win for Colbert proves just how vital he is to the world of entertainment. This was always going to be the end of a chapter for the comedy juggernaut, but the win has changed the narrative. No longer is Colbert at the mercy of a major network, but a talent that CBS foolishly let go. He has gained momentum because of this accolade and may have the opportunity to rise from the ashes. Getting dismissed from a late-night show is sadly a milestone that many have encountered before. Conan O\u2019Brien was unfairly dismissed<\/a> from his program, but this wasn\u2019t the end for the comedian. O\u2019Brien is having a renaissance of sorts, from hosting the Oscars to his hilarious presence in the podcast world and HBO’s Conan O’Brien Must Go<\/a>. There was a time when O\u2019Brien\u2019s drama with NBC could have been a death sentence. Instead, it allowed him to spread his wings creatively. If there is anyone who could bounce back from this, it\u2019s Colbert.<\/p>\n

In the coming years, it may also be a blessing. Mergers and consolidations of streamers<\/a> have been strangling the creative process. The best thing for a talent like Colbert, whose best work is speaking freely about current events, is to go beyond the purview of structured networks that are selling some sort of agenda.
