decision&#8217;: All Vancouver Car Free Days cancelled in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just months after the Honda Celebration of Light was cancelled for 2026, another high-profile Vancouver summertime event has pulled the plug for this year.<\/p>\n<p>Car Free Vancouver Society announced on Monday, March 2, that it had made the \u201cdifficult decision\u201d not to move forward with the 2026 Car Free Days.<\/p>\n<p>According to the society, the choice to cancel the Main Street, Denman and Commercial Drive festivals was made after \u201ccareful consideration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img Vancouver<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know how much these events mean to the vendors, artists, musicians, local businesses, and community members who show up year after year,\u201d said Car Free Vancouver Society in a post on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carfreevancouver.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCar Free Day has always been about celebrating neighbourhood culture, creativity, and connection \u2014 and it is incredibly hard to pause something that brings so many people together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The society revealed several reasons that the landscape for large-scale community events has been challenging.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRising operational costs, changes to grant funding and operational support, have moved us into an uncertain place, where Car Free Days in the city may look like.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are truly grateful to everyone who has supported us over the years \u2014 our vendors, performers, volunteers, partners, and the hundreds of thousands of attendees who have made these streets come alive,\u201d said the society. \u201cWe\u2019re sad to not be with you this year, and will keep you informed as things develop over time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause we\u2019re scrappy, this is not goodbye, but simply see ya later.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Car Free Day events being removed from the city\u2019s summer schedule comes after it was confirmed in November that the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/vancouver\/celebration-of-light-vancouver-fireworks-2026-cancelled\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Honda Celebration of id=\"caption-attachment-2139255\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Honda Celebration of Light<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Daily Hive Urbanized, Paul Runnals, executive producer of the Honda Celebration of Light and a founding partner of event production company Brand Live, says the financial reality has become a \u201cperfect storm\u201d and an \u201cunmanageable situation.\u201d Federal and provincial government contributions \u2014 a critical backbone for the free public event ever since the event\u2019s pandemic restart in 2022 \u2014 have plummeted.<\/p>\n<p>However, a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/vancouver\/vancouver-one-night-fireworks-celebration-of-light-summer-2026-approved\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">one-night Vancouver fireworks event was
