March 2, 2026<\/a><\/p>\nLangley Deputy fire chief Russ Jenkins described it as a confined space rescue.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe call came in at 8:12 a.m. We arrived on scene and found that one of the workers at the new arena site had fallen about 20 feet into a hole and had sustained some pretty significant injuries,\u201d Jenkins said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe sent a member down to do a confined space rescue and extricated the male patient from the hole. He was conscious the entire time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Just before 9:30 a.m., firefighters extracted the man using a cable from a fire department ladder truck to lift him out, with several crew reeling him up by hand.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur team did a fantastic job, very proud of them,\u201d Jenkins said.<\/p>\n
Two ambulances, three fire trucks, and Langley RCMP were called to the scene.<\/p>\n
RCMP Sgt. Zynal Sharoom said \u201cwe are investigating the circumstances that led up to this incident and are working alongside WorkSafe BC and other first responding agencies.\u201d<\/p>\n
BC Emergency Health Services dispatched an ambulance with primary care paramedics, an ambulance with advanced care paramedics and a paramedic supervisor.<\/p>\n
\u201cParamedics provided emergency medical care to one patient who was transported to hospital in serious, but stable condition,\u201d said Brian Twaites, BCEHS paramedic public information officer.<\/p>\n

The Township is building a new five-arena ice rink and dry-floor complex, scheduled to be opened this fall.<\/p>\n
