{"id":511983,"date":"2026-03-03T17:04:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T17:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/511983\/"},"modified":"2026-03-03T17:04:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T17:04:13","slug":"cricket-pitch-multi-purpose-field-to-open-soon-at-huge-mississauga-sports-complex","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/511983\/","title":{"rendered":"Cricket pitch, multi-purpose field to open soon at huge Mississauga sports complex"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new tournament-grade cricket pitch and a multi-purpose field are on track to open this spring at a huge sports complex in Mississauga\u2019s west end, the city says.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the full-sized cricket facility and turf field for field hockey and soccer, both of which will be outfitted with lighting for night play, a five-kilometre multi-use trail encircling the playing fields is also set to officially open the third week of April as part of the next phase at Mattamy Sports Park.<\/p>\n<p>The sports complex, located next to the $51-million \u201cstate-of-the-art\u201d Churchill Meadows Community Centre on Ninth Line (both opened in late 2021), was initially outfitted with amenities including basketball courts, outdoor fitness equipment, a playground, skateboard area, lit sports field, spray pad and a leash-free dog park.<\/p>\n<p>As part of phase 2 in the development of Mattamy Sports Park, a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insauga.com\/new-sports-dome-opens-for-year-round-tennis-and-pickleball-in-mississauga\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">domed tennis and pickleball facility<\/a> that offers year-round play opened in November 2024.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s being followed by this spring\u2019s introduction of the new cricket pitch, multi-purpose field and nearby multi-use trail.<\/p>\n<p>In a notice to the community this week, Mississauga Ward 10 Coun. Sue McFadden confirmed the \u201cofficial grand opening\u201d of the newest features at the sports park will take place on Saturday, April 18 starting at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"vidyard-player-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/awZCW3rPmWvxPqZHnBCKLu.jpg\" data-videoid=\"790139\" data-uuid=\"awZCW3rPmWvxPqZHnBCKLu\" data-v=\"4\" data-type=\"inline\" data-muted=\"1\" style=\"width:100%\"\/>    <\/p>\n<p>        <img width=\"1024\" height=\"513\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Screenshot-2026-01-30-at-1.55.02-PM-1024x513.png\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"\"  decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>      <\/p>\n<p>Mattamy Sports Park, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insauga.com\/state-of-the-art-57-acre-mississauga-sports-park-gets-a-new-name\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">named in June 2022<\/a>, spreads out over 57 acres and first opened in October 2021 as part of Churchill Meadows Community Centre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to the completion of all of these additional amenities to complete Mattamy Sports Park,\u201d McFadden said in 2024, noting the sports complex, when fully formed, will be suitable for \u201cleisure recreation from local pickup sports to hosting international tournaments and everything in between.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The $4.3-million Premier Racquet Clubs Mississauga, the four-court, domed tennis and pickleball facility that opened on site in November 2024, was spearheaded by the City of Mississauga in partnership with Premier Racquet Clubs and Tennis Canada.
