On Monday, San Antonio Spurs<\/a> center Luke Kornet published a blog post on his Medium page asking the Atlanta Hawks<\/a> to cancel their upcoming promotional night centered around Magic City<\/a>, the famous Atlanta strip club. It is scheduled for March 16th, in a home matchup against the rival Orlando Magic<\/a>. Among other things, Kornet voiced his concerns over what the Hawks were glorifying, as he noted that women potentially face objectification and mistreatment over such actions.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Al Horford, Kornet’s former Boston Celtics<\/a> teammate of four seasons from 2021-2025, issued a simple and concise X post in support of Kornet’s stance against the Hawks’ strip club promotion. Horford, now a member of the Golden State Warriors<\/a>, played for the Hawks from 2007-2016:<\/p>\n

For what it’s worth, per The Athletic<\/a>, Hawks co-owner Jami Gertz said the franchise will ensure it does Magic City justice while also making sure the promotional night stays family-friendly:<\/p>\n

“But Magic City and the city\u2019s other strip clubs ‘are part of Atlanta\u2019s cultural vibe.'” Hawks co-owner Jami Gertz said, \u201c… This is not a shameful thing. This is a family-run business and a family-run atmosphere, if I can say that.\u201d<\/p>\n

We’ll see how this situation develops and if Kornet’s stance has any impact on whether the Hawks decide to change anything up here.<\/p>\n
