The product of Bloomfield, Conn., just went home and kept in shape, while keeping in touch with teammates he\u2019d gotten to know so well in such a short time.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlways being overly prepared,\u201d is how Lawson put it. \u201cIf you\u2019re always ready, you never gotta get ready.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just days after the Bombers brought him back, the 25-year-old defensive back appears on the verge of getting into the lineup in Calgary on Saturday.<\/p>\n

An injury to Jamal Parker has caused a shuffle in the secondary, Lawson getting the call he was hoping would come his way.<\/p>\n

The call from Winnipeg came just as he\u2019d finished a two-week stint with the Massachusetts Pirates of the Arena League.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe season ended on a Friday, got called here on the Sunday,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was perfect timing. Everything worked out exactly how it was supposed to.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson doesn\u2019t spend much time wondering why it wasn\u2019t perfect back in June.<\/p>\n

He lives in the present. His motto: \u201cBe where my feet are.\u201d<\/p>\n

Those feet were in Hamilton the last two seasons, where he played 13 games, made 45 tackles and picked off a pass.<\/p>\n

Playing corner and halfback, he felt he picked up the Canadian game well enough to impress some people.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s confident in his instincts and ability to break on the ball, too, something head coach Mike O\u2019Shea took note of this week.<\/p>\n

All of that is why Lawson didn\u2019t fret his Canadian career might be over.<\/p>\n

Joining his current one in camp, he felt at home right away.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince Day 1 it\u2019s just been like family, and the team camaraderie \u2014 everybody is just together,\u201d Lawson said. \u201cEverybody welcomed me with open arms. And not just inside the locker-room. In the community, we go out for dinners as if we\u2019ve been together for the past few years. Even though I just got here.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Stampeders will be acutely aware just how green Lawson is to the Blue and Gold.<\/p>\n

With elusive quarterback Vernon Adams expected back at the Calgary controls after missing a game with a head injury, Saturday\u2019s season debut won\u2019t be a walk in the park for the 5-foot-9, 190-pounder.<\/p>\n

Defenders can\u2019t relax when Adams starts running around.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s important for us to make sure we stay locked on our guys,\u201d Lawson said. \u201cWe\u2019ve got to cover for a little bit longer, which is fine. Especially in the CFL. The field is so big they always find different ways to squeeze away from you. That\u2019s why we get paid, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson hopes to be cashing cheques in Winnipeg for a while.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Shea says the Bombers were fortunate he was available, and the feeling is mutual.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited,\u201d Lawson said. \u201cJust take advantage of my opportunity and let the game come to me, and not put too much emotion into it.\u201d<\/p>\n
