SYDNEY \u2014 Prime Minister Mark Carney says he supported Washington’s strikes on Iran “with regret” over the continued decline of the rules-based international order.<\/p>\n
Carney broke with most European allies by unequivocally endorsing this past weekend’s American strikes on Iran, which have since been joined by Israel.<\/p>\n
He says Canada was not informed about the strikes in advance nor was it asked to participate.<\/p>\n
Carney says “it appears that these actions are inconsistent with international law.”<\/p>\n
Now that the military operation has begun, Carney says he supports the efforts to end Iran’s nuclear program and its decades-long process of state-sponsored terrorism.<\/p>\n
Carney says the U.S. and Israel must “respect the rules of international engagement” and called on Iran to stop its strikes against civilians across the Middle East.<\/p>\n
