NORFOLK, Va. \u2013 North Carolina Central women’s tennis swept the weekly awards from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, as Alejandra Hidalgo Vega<\/a> was named Player of the Week and Sara Barbaric<\/a> earned Rookie of the Week honors.<\/p>\n The Eagles competed in three matches last week, including a Feb. 24 matchup against No. 3 North Carolina. In that contest, Hidalgo Vega faced the nation’s sixth-ranked player, Oby Kajuru, and pushed her in a competitive first set. The senior later rebounded with back-to-back 6-1 sets in a victory over Barton’s Irma Granstam.<\/p>\n Barbaric was the final match to finish against UNC Asheville on Feb. 27, battling through two tiebreakers after dropping the first set at No. 4 singles to Maria Sol Alverez. The freshman secured the victory with a 7-5 set tiebreak and a 12-10 match tiebreak.<\/p>\n NC Central returns to action Friday, March 6, at Wofford.
