Ken Mayhew, the late president and CEO of the Osler Foundation, is being remembered as an \u201cextraordinary advocate\u201d for health care and Brampton.<\/p>\n

Flags at city hall have been lowered to half-mast to honour Mayhew, who helped fundraise and champion the Peel Memorial Centre upgrade project.<\/p>\n

The William Osler Health System said on Tuesday that Mayhew has died. Since 2012, Mayhew was the president and CEO of the health system\u2019s fundraising body.<\/p>\n

He was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2025 for his efforts to advance health care in one of the most diverse and fastest-growing communities in the country. No cause of death has been publicly disclosed.<\/p>\n

\u201cKen had a remarkable ability to connect with people at every level and took the time to truly listen, to learn and to recognize the meaningful contributions of others,\u201d the health system said in a release. \u201cHe was an extraordinary advocate for health care in the communities we serve and brought heart and purpose to everything he did.\u201d<\/p>\n

The City of Brampton called Mayhew a \u201cchampion for health care and a tireless advocate for the communities Osler serves.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHis compassionate leadership \u2013 including his role in the campaign for Brampton\u2019s second hospital \u2013 will be remembered across our city and beyond,\u201d the city said.<\/p>\n

Mayhew was also crowned Fundraiser of the Year from the Greater Toronto and Golden Horseshoe chapters of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and his career was profiled in Canadian journalist Peter Mansbridge\u2019s book \u2018How Canada Works \u2013 The People Who Make Our Nation Thrive\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are deeply proud of Ken\u2019s leadership and the lasting impact he continues to make within Osler and across Canada\u2019s charitable sector,\u201d the health system said.<\/p>\n
